Making a sucessful Career Change - Advice and experiences?

Hello - I am a bit out of my depth here as I dp careers advice at school. (I can recommend teaching - lots of nice holidays every so often!.) I think there are different fields and specialisms as in everything.
Well I bet you have already been to a site called TargetJobs and the Geological Society's site. The Target Jobs site does offer some distance learning courses which may help you update your degree? Try out the OU for some short courses as a refresher course. I think this may help you get your toes in the door.
Both this TargetJobs site and the OU do conversion courses in teaching (in case you decide to teach the subject instead and your police experience would come in jolly handy!) I think the Target Jobs site provide links to Universities and methods of funding these courses too.
I hope I have helped anyway. I am just thinking that you might need just to enhance your cv with a short refresher course in your main interest. All your other skills are transferable to other professions so I would play these up as much as possible too.
