Looking for a nice soundbar, Nothing silly money but not cheap rubbish either

Will only be used now so ideally just a soundbar or one with a wireless sub would be perfect,

Ive read about the Yamaha YAS101 seems to be perfect for me unless anyone else can tell me otherwise

Do you want a bar that just produces better sound than you get from the TV

Or

Do you want a bar that produces a very good attempt at true surround sound?

Two completely different solutions and cost points.

My personal recommendation for the latter is the Polk Surround Bar. Used it a lot and have one planned for the living room when the cinema/demo/playroom goes in.

Recently purchased a Yamaha YSP-2200 (I was unable to find a Polk!) and have been delighted with it.

It replaced a 5.1 setup, and whilst it's not as good, it's good enough (90% of the way there).

New Sonos playbar coming out early March may be of interest if you want wireless capabilities and supposedly decent sound... Pre-orders are £599 I believe.

I've been looking at that on Amazon - is it this one you have then?

Orbitsound T12v3 Spatial Stereo Sound Bar with iPhone Dock

Do you think it is worth the money?

I really would like to have music in my kitchen/living area and think this fits the bill perfectly.

If you don't need it attached to a TV, then the Sonos Play 3 (£250) or play 5 (£350) are worth considering for that money

Yup thats the one ..i think its cheap for what it does..and being a bit of an 'audiophile' im not that easily impressed! If you go to John Lewis they have them on permanant demo...also a British company i believe which i like.

Very much so. Have a family friend who is one of the principals (which is how I found out about them and ended up with one). I'm not an audiophile by any means, but it sounds fantastic to me, and to coin a phrase 'it just works'.

Q-Acoustics Q-TV2?

Like a sound bar but fits to the back of the TV and includes a subtle subwoofer. I have one as it felt less intrusive than a sound bar. It's about £300, depending on where you buy it.

The sound is pretty good - a big step up from the TV speakers and the subwoofer helps bring movies to life. I have a small problem with mine in that my TV doesn't have an audio out and I've had to fudge it with a SCART out which can cause problems with HDCP on DVDs and Bluray. But that shouldn't be a problem if your TV has (as most do) an audio out such as optical.

I did the same last year when Superfi had them on offer.

Sound wise it is far superior to the 8yr old sony surround sound satellite speaker/receiver package it replaced and while obviously not as good as a full separates setup, for the money and compact dimensions i find it very hard to fault for TV/movies. Not convinced for stereo music reproduction but no multi channel setup i have listened to has come close to an equivalent 2ch setup.

This is a new product from those wacky Sonos people! I can't wait to get our Demo one
they can be easily updated with optional wireless sub/rear speakers, and of course you'd then have access
to one of the best multi-room setups on the market....

Yamaha YSP1000, a few years old now but can work amazingly well. Under £200 on eBAY.
Unfortunately doesn't work well in my room due to layout. The surround sound on one side is simply incredible, rock solid. Confused the crap out of the dogs, unfortunately the other is non existant.

Boxed back up in case i move to another house where it works.

Yamaha YSP-4100. Does a great job with surround sound, granted its not as good as 5.1 setup of old which in its day cost a small fortune. I reused my REL strata 3 sub which works well.

I recently picked up a LG NB3520A 2.1 Sound bar. Did a lot of research and this was one of the best rated reasonably priced bars. Price varies from £200 - £250.

Has a wireless subwoofer which packs a fare punch. I've got it stashed behind a couch which works perfectly. You can connect your phone to the bar aswell to play music through it.
