a question about glaucoma

so having had an eye exam for the first time in a long while she said the readings for the pressure behind my eyes were a little high and would need to see a specialist for further tests. anyone else had this and what was your experience?

My father had glaucoma, so once I was 40 I was assessed. Glaucoma leads to degeneration of the retina from the periphery inwards, so the test I underwent was to check the extent of the field of vision in each eye: this meant staring into a lightbox and indicating whether I could see little lights/marks as the opthalmologist triggered them - sort of the equivalent of a hearing frequency test.

That was five years ago and I should probably have another, but haven't got round to it.

Tests themselves should be pretty normal and not anything like say the scene from Clockwork Orange that comes to mind.

Seriously it can be controlled by meds, but it is really important you get this checked out.

Once the retina is damaged you lose sight, eventually it leads to blindness.

well the rest of the eye test was normal apparently but the test for glaucoma was a little high hence why they contact have to contact my gp for a eye specialist referal to confirm if its glaucoma or not. hopefully it will nothing but clearly important to catch early if there is a problem.
