I know the minute I read this back I will say to myself you should have gone to the doctor earlier but in case there is any other fitness follower who reads this do it if you haven't been right for a while:

Since Oct 12 i've not been feeling 100% but been able to train at a fairly good rate - symptoms such as glands slightly inflammed, bit of a cough, tight chest however once I was in the gym could still lift as normal squats, DL, etc and outdoor activites running or mountain biking my performance was not affected, even taking gym lessons with a class I felt okay it was only on the evenings or late afternoon I felt like I had a cold/flu.

Late Nov and over Xmas I upped my work rate ready for a 24 hour MTB race in Scotland mainly cardio and X-Fit due to the nature of the training I lost weight from 95kg to 91.5kg - again whilst training I felt fine my rowing times and speed trial times improved but afterwards was not myself on reflection.

On the wend of 24 Jan I completed the race, glands were up during this but my times per lap were good obviously weather throughout was terrible but cracked it, left Scotland drove to Wales and had fitness classes to take roughly 48 hours after (this is not unusual and have had this after other events over the years.)

Not long after I started getting night sweats but without a fever, which i've had after Ultra-Marathons and other events so didn't ignore but felt as if been there done it, over the next few weeks I ate loads and lifted weights to put some bulk back on which didn't really happen and night sweats continued.

On Monday I completed weights and a X-Fit class, I was out of breath quickly and was sweating way more than usual but strength not really down just recovery and giddy. Drove home GF looked at me and said you need to see the doctor now, I was white and underneath my eyes was black.

Went to the doctors and when I explained how I'd felt and what i'd been doing I felt a bit of a nugget but its so easily done, the only reason I had the time to do this was due to being off work, cut a long story short I was sent straight away for a blood test and chest x-ray, night sweats and glands up are not a good sign (I knew that but thought I had the answers as to why), NHS were brilliant and my results come back yesterday, high white blood cell count so body fighting an infection and I was not listening to it, could have been so much worse and such a reality check, kinda thought I was bomb proof. Without getting to deep made me wake up quite a bit and realise how other people aren't so lucky.

So this thread is not self promotion but to say take the time out if you aren't feeling right.

Happy training.

Quite right, if you are fit and healthy there is no need to exercise and if you are not well you shouldn't do it.

Common sense answers indeed unfortunately the nature of my employment and stupidity of not resting caught up with me.

There are many others like me hence my post.

That reminds me, I caught some fever a while ago and in the early stages, I was doing HIIT thinking it wouldn't stop me. Two days later I could barely get out of bed!

Pray, do tell!

Yep, you have to look after the body, I have probably got a similar work load to you exercise wise. Rest is definitely the most important part, with good nutrition of course. I have at least one day a week completely off from any form of exercise and I tend to let my diet go a little on that particular day too, just to keep mind and body fresh.

So basically you've got an infection?

Sorry - I thought it was going to be imminent heart attack / brain tumour or something?

Bang on McE, I have 2 days off training have done since 97 unless in an event, my issue lay in I'm either in Manchester, Wales, Northants or Twickernham studying, teaching or visiting my daughter instead of resting.

But lessons learnt for the future, hope the trainings going well.
