Hi,

I had a private plate on my car.

I applied to put it on retention as I want to sell the car. Last time I did this I recall the process was very quick, though that was several years ago.

I sent off the paperwork to the local DVLA on 31st January. Only yesterday, 12th Feb, did I receive the first response from the DVLA (which was an interim certificate to allow me to get replacement plates, and a replacement tax disc).

However, I now need to wait for the actual retention certificate, and the replacement V5 log book.

On the critical path... I can't proceed to sell my car until I have the log book back. Does someone out there have recent experience of how long this is taking at the moment?

I'm sure it's not quite as simple as I imagine, for reasons I would never understand, ...but once the paperwork has been checked, and entered into the system, shouldn't this be a really quick and largely automated process?

It states 6 weeks from start to finish...

It usually takes about a week from when you get the first bunch back, so it won't be long!

Just for anyone else that's interested, both the retention certificate and replacement log book came in post today (15th Feb). So 16 days in total to turnaround, from popping paperwork in post.
