After a few years away, I have now sold the E-Type and have decided to return to Porsche ownership. A 993 is on the cards at it looks like the best bet for useable, depreciation free ownership. Decent manual 2wd cars are looking quite hard to find, especially the coupe. I may be quite tempted by a Targa, or even a 964, but only in manual coupe form.
Any pointers or advice, especially regarding the 993 Targa greatly appreciated. Also if anyone knows of cars coming up,for sale - great also.

Cheers

Don't rule out a targa. There pretty good and a bit different. Just make sure it doesn't creak much and works perfectly. They are not easy or cheap to fix.

But the sweet spot is defo a manual C2 and the values reflect that.

The Targa is quite high on my list, but only the 993.
Quite a nice looking one at Hamiltons of Bristol - good miles and not a bad price.
Anyone know it?

That's a good price for a low mileage car IF it checks out condition wise. It maybe the light, but it looks arctic silver to me and be sure to check out the paintwork ref the comment about the stone guard and the apparent paint mis match.

Remember that these are old cars now, so there is much to check. Use a buyers guide like jackals or pay for a pro inspection.

I've looked at a few 993's recently for a mate, finally sourced one near Preston this week. Going to take it for an inspection Saturday morning.. Looks a lovely car, looking forward to driving a turbo as I've only ever driven a C2 previously.

Zingari was referring to me as the contact for the 964C2 manual coupe. E-mail me through my profile and I'll put you in contact with the owner. Looks a lovely car from the details I've been given.

MTR - What are they referring to, re; stone guards. What paint mis-match are you seeing?

My old 993 Targa came back around to Paul Stephens at a huge price (28k I think) and went before they could get all the details up!

It was good, but 28k good?

Don't rule out the C4 either. The system in the 993 was simpler than the 964's 959 derived one, and it doesn't understeer like the internet experts would have you believe.

In anycase a bit of understeer approaching the limit is 911 tradition, and preferable as a warning IMO to the alternative.

Read the description and then look at the OSR wing in front of the wheel arch.
