Porsche Turbo S coupe or cabriolet?
Discussion
Guys
Just some advice please, im about to move away from my R8 after 2 fun years with the car and finally looking to get a porsche
Now im looking at a Turbo or Turbo S and i know the new model comes out later end of this year / next year but I'm not hugely concerned and given the wait for the new car and the deals on 2012 registered models, kind of makes sense to go with the current model and if i like trade up again in a few years and save myself £30kish
This will be my main car (mainly weekends) but i do like to go to VMAX / track days a few times a year, so question is, which model coupe or cabriolet?!?
Any views most welcome!
thanks
Alan

The cabs are that good now that unless your wanting to set lap records on your track days and you fancy the wind in your hair then go for it.
I ran a 997 pdk turbo cab for 10000 miles and they are an amazing product however coming from an R8 you may want an extended test drive before you make your final decision as they are a very different sort of car and usually a buyer will have had a 911 or two before they brave a turbo

Thanks for that. I agree will take an extended test drive makes a lot of sense although i think i can handle the speed I ran a 997 pdk turbo cab for 10000 miles and they are an amazing product however coming from an R8 you may want an extended test drive before you make your final decision as they are a very different sort of car and usually a buyer will have had a 911 or two before they brave a turbo

blimey unless you need the rear seats stick with that magnificent v10. I think you're doing a bad trade as turbo s never a weekend fun car. more a dd
To be honest, yes the V10 is just a fantastic engine and is a great car although you will find many on PH who like to wind you up comparing it as 'just an Audi' or a TT in disguise even
Problem is i get bored and like to experience different brands and a Porsche just seems a nature next step, just the question is whether its the Turbo 997 or a new Carrera S (2 or 4) ?!? Yes back seats to come into it but clearly they arent exectly roomy in the porsche but if needed to use them i guess its extra space yes.
I guess the 997 Turbo S is the 'sensible' choice amongst the junior supercars.
A good friend has one and I'd love one - blisteringly quick with amazing handling security, but compact dimensions, 4-seats (rears do work but better in the coupe than cab), up to 30mpg, decent boot and storage space, VW Golf dependability, every day, every weather usable........
However, probably too efficient for a 'weekend toy' - maybe try a GT3?

I have a cab which makes it more of an event with the roof down, can hear more of that jet fighter like sound. Unless you like to drive 10/10ths all of the time I would go cab, pretty impressive rigidity and overall a devestatingly quick package. Great value at the moment for those pre-reg examples, go for it.
