I've had a couple of Mercedes A-Classes as our family runabout (the previous generation, not the new one, sadly). Lots to like about these cars from a practical viewpoint, that suited my family. They've never let us down, but there have been a few minor issues, and not what I'd expect of a premium badge.

Thing is, I'm aware that the original A-Class is considered an embarrassment to the Mercedes range by many.

So, what are your suggestions for other models that stand out [in a bad way] in a manufacturer's range, past and present?

The Porsche 924 also springs to my mind as a car that didn't warrant the badge.

I guess the Aston Martin Cygnet could also be counted, but that's a bit too obvious wink

Cygnet i have to admit i quite like, discussed with a fellow PHer as we walk past one every day, worth the money, don't be daft but if they had turboed it and gave it some 'POWER' it would be rather good. (At £19k tops of course).

"Runt" of the litter wouldn't typically imply flagship ///M cars.

I always thought that the Subaru Justy was a bit of a runt, especially how when I went to a Subaru dealer they had one or two parked right at the back of the dealership.

Alternatively, while not a runt in the slightest, S1 Elises seem to be somewhat unloved by dealers, being pushed aside for the arguably better looking S2s.

That was one of my first thoughts, but then I suppose they didn't design it to blend in, such as with the Nissan Juke. They'll know what they're doing. Personally though I think it's hideous.

2.9 Jag XJ40 with fabric seats. I recall someone like Sir John Egan saying it wasn't a proper Jaguar.

Another one. Jag X-Type.

I would say the 924 is nearer to the brands core values than a Cayenne is, or a Panamera for that matter.

I much prefer the S1 shape. I'd have thought the main reason that dealers shy away from S1 is simply their age.
