A good friend of mine who has been 'driving miss daisy' for as long as i have known him now has 9 points on his license.
The last 6 all came in the space of a week. Two NIPs for 35 in a 30 from a truvello inside of a week. He's been passing this camera 2-3 times a day for the 2 years it has been up, so he is well aware of it.
The camera coincides with a 2 lane to 1 merge, so on occasion, you would need to speed up momentarily to create gaps for merging.
Now the Scam is outside a school, and has obviously either not been live until now, or the trigger speed has been recently dropped. OK good place to put one, but?
The month they decide to do this? August. No kids at school anyway!

I spoke to him today, and he says he now feels a lot more dangerous than previously, as he's forever looking at his speedo. He needs the car for his job, and is a bit weird, as he dislikes speed, and is uncomfortable at high speed.
He is probably the most law abiding motorist I have ever met, so what hope is there for the rest of us.

No hope for the rest of us I am afraid.

Big (nasty) brother is after you....

If he can't get you for speeding, he'll have you for parking. Even Streetcops been done for parking - in a flippin' supermarket.

How this country is degrading beggars belief.

The trouble is that you have a local government officer who is employed to do a job. Once that 'job' is sorted, or taken over by a computer (or scamera) what do you do with the 'officer?'

Well, its very simple really. Just invent something else for him to do, otherwise not only will he be out of a job, but his boss, and his boss above him etc. will have a diminished establishment and budget, and therefore lose status and power.

Just sack the extra 'officers' and not only will the country be more efficient, the dopey deadwood that inhabit our town halls might actually have to work for a living and do something constructive!

So he's aware of it, yet speeds past it? To be done for 35, his speedo would be showing about 37...(in a 30mph we're talking about...past a speed camera that he knows is there!)

So it's safe to say that he's not exactly the 'sharpest tool in the box' then? Christ!

The guys as sharp as the rest of us. Just concentrates on driving safely rather than looking at his speedo. Keeping up with other traffic etc etc.

Drives a focus estate (yes no taste), but his speedo is bang on with my GPS.

Ps I'm rubish at speling

Just for reference the first NIP hadn't arrived before the second recorded offense.

Anyone can stray over the limit for seconds whist merging into traffic, especially when concentrating on not trying to hit any one rather than their speedo. But it Just seems a bit cynical to reduce the trigger speed during school holidays, when traffic volume would dictate a slight increase in average speeds.

Oh come on! Think of the poor little box! It's got to pay for itself, otherwise it'll be forcibly moved to another area.

So he has sped past this place 730 - 1000 times and only been caught twice! Result. Why take the chance on squeezing an extra 5mph if he knows where the cameras are?

I can relate to your mate, a little, being new to driving etc, not really a huge fan of high speed, (will admit to enjoying the tyre smoking 0-30 thrashes though ) but (the point of this post) I bought an origin B2 - (no points = lower insurance, Im already paying £2500) and your made would do well to snap one up, now might be a good time.

The UK is a Joke. In Canada, we had long stretches of straight roads, few signs, easy driving (if a little boring, not that I drove back then but I digress)

The UK is a convaluted mass of twisting turning roads, tens of millions of signs, and enough 40-30-40 zones and scameras to make not owning a B2 (or similar) a bad idea, especially if you have a high premium or 9 points already. [/2cents]

?

We understand he was well aware of the camera so his observation skills appear to have been OK. He just didn't take sufficient care to keep the speed down.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I have to disagree with you here, it is more likely that you need to slow down to merge safely, not speed up. Speeding up indicates (to me) an attempt to get past one more car before it becomes single lane.

I would say he has been a bit of a twit!

1) Spot camera at 100 yards, anticipate speed required and merge into traffic

2) Stress out about getting in front of the car to the left, speed up, concentrate on beating the other guy, sail past camera that you're oblivious to.

Take your pick

Big problem is police/gov't laziness, get out on traffic duties like U.S cops and get 'em.

Spot camera - probably for the thousandth time - but misjudge speed on this occasion?

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Was the two into one merge there before or after the erection(!) of the camera.
