On a recent holiday to the Malaysian island of Langkawi the missus and I were exploring a rather down at heel shopping mall and came upon 2 new RS 4.0 parked in line astern with some rudimentary tape around to keep the hoi poloi away.
Nobody was around to keep an eye on them, they just seemed parked there for storage for The local OPC. The only odd thing was that the nearest OPC was in KL which is an hours flight away, and I think the were the only Porsches on the island.
At approx £300k the pair they were worth more than the mall!!
Both had KL OPC on the plates and I think the were registered, also noticed the front lids were popped presumably to enable charging of a flat battery,as no trickle in sight.
By the way it would be a total waste of time driving cars like these on the island as the roads are not that wonderful and full of Honda 50s all over the place

The price of a new boxster s in My is £110k + so I suspect your £300k for the 2 is a little out wink

Penang has a plethora of porkers & ferraris and a few lambos too, and its only a few hours boat ride to Penang from langkawi and less to the mainland.

There is an OPC in butterworth not too far away to

The one about halfway down this page (pic by me, post by drpep) wasn't one of them was it?

Pretty sure that's a Singaporean plate on this one, but the Malaysian ones look pretty similar as far as I remember.

will be utter madness to buy Malaysian 4.0 as the tax paid (around 150% of price of car) cannot be reclaimed .. which means price will be much more than UK prices, not forgetting shipping one to the UK.

Yep, but in Malaysian true style, no one loses the tax paid when they sell it on!!!

Granted the car will depreciate, but very little difference between prices of a new & 3 year old motor in Malaysia

2nd hand prices are crazy and I've seen some people advertise motors for more than new price if they have had extras fitted during ownership!!

Completely barkers!!!!

Ok I have a have response. They are bring stored there for the owner and are not currently for sale... Probably a good thing given the tax value!

I wouldn't be surprised if these are exported UK cars. It is a sad fact that a lot of them leave the country straight away.

And sit on charge in a shopping mall... Probably unused.

If the tax is anything like Singapore, then 300k is probably cheap for just one 4.0. When I looked at exporting my 997.1 GT3 to Singapore, the import tax was basically the list price of my car (I think about £80k) even though the car was 5 years old at the time. There there was an additional 'processing' fee of around £10,000, then another random registration fee of about another £5k. Then other taxes as well. Annual road tax I didn't get into exploring much as a mate who lives out there said to expect something around £10k PER ANNUM. So I figured £100k just to export my car out there was a bit much...

Just had a look at stock at the Singapore OPC. Hope the link works, here's a a 2007 GT3 like mine for SG328k, about £170k

And here's a 2011 Turbo S Cab, for SG708k, about £368k...

They are tax free in lankowi, they'll sit there a few years then be shipped to the mainland second hand.

I'm from Singapore. That car taken in Krabi is a Singapore registered car. It cost near £400k new. A 991CS cost about £280k now with some basic options from OPC. Just to give a little more perspective into Singapore car's prices. A Toyota Corolla 1.8 is about £84k.
