Meat and hot oil - what could be easier?

Which meats do you tend to have? A bit of fillet steak is the obvious one, but what else works?

Depends on the sauces and dips,

Lamb, chicken are good.

Also liver.

Blue sauce is good with fillet
Mustard based for all
Garlic based for chicken

Or depends on your guests

Sorry to be a downer, but I think boiling oil in an unstable container on a table surrounded by people dipping in and out is an accident waiting to happen. At the very least, the table top / table cloth will be spattered with oil spitting from the fondue.

I'll be sure to do a full risk assessment before anyone is allowed to pick up a fork.

I crossed the road with headphones on this morning, so I'm feeling lucky.

You've already used up your luck allowance for today. Step away from the Fondue!

Does it work for a variety of meats?

Also, do we think lobster would cook well this way?

Interesting.

Did you just use the meat "plain", as it were, and add sauces post-cooking?

The meat was plain but we did have various dips. At the end we drank the broth with a touch of whiskey mixed in.

I had meat fundu once at a dinner party. They did beef, chicken and shrimp. It was OK but everyone ended up with oil stained clothes and stinking of oily meaty/ fishy smells. the shrimp were the best bit as they dont need as long to cook and dont really need the same level of browning. I found it got boring holding the scewers in the hot oil for long enough to get proper browning on the meat.

We have meat fondues regularly enough and, provided children aren't about, there's never been a risk.
If you're feeling super-relaxed, just throw a large blanket on the floor and do it Roman style.

We keep it simple: thinly sliced top rump, chicken breast, pork (despite the cries of alarm from the back of the class).

shout Stand down everyone

Fondue complete. Steak, lamb and prawns.

No human casualties, although I did pour hot oil over the cat. Bloody tasty it was too.

Recommend if anyone else is giving it a go to check you've got something to light under the pot, as a stack of Ikea tealights doesn't really cut the mustard.

TTFN.

Methylated spirits is what you want for an oil fondue.
