Can Braders or anyone else with an Act big bore exhaust system [no cats]give me an idea of what db they are making, i cannot find my DB meter and want to know if the car would get on a 105db trackday?
It sounds a little on the loud side to be honest biglaugh

Christian, mines not the ACT system, but apart from the cross pipe they would be the same, with the cross pipe fitted and normal end cans then about 105db, without the cross pipe then about 110db.

Hi Christian,

my ACT Exhaust with the 2" end cans makes 98db(a) in 0.5m distance at idle, around 120db(a) at 5000 rpm.

I have special track day cans from Tim...they have 91db(a) at idle and 106db(a) at 5000 rpm, always in 0.5m distance and 45° horizontal measuring angle.

Here's an unprofessional recorded sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JjVRNvLy8Y

Thanks Clive, Oliver thats great as you also have the 4.3 so good to get a comparison & some accurate readings
Also good to know tim can supply some end cans as i want to get the Sag out @ Spa this Easter
The video is a good excuse for some hooliganism smile

Yeah, for Spa you should get the track day cans because in Belgium and the Netherlands they are the most restrictive in noise levels.
Especially in Spa because they not only disqualify the loud car, no, the authorities cancel the whole event if there are a number of incidents on a track day...and it's not a very good feeling to be responsible for that....

BTW, do you visit the Nurburgring at easter ? I'm only one hour away from there and I think it would be fun to have our 'siblings' standing next to another...

Does the same apply to a de-catted standard Sagaris exhaust?

Hi Jon,

i fear yes...last year I was in Zolder (Continental Meeting) with my Sagaris, decatted and standard exhaust, and I couldn't even drive the Out-Lap to warm up the car before I got the black flag...the same happened in the afternoon. So I think the decatted Sag is to loud for some track days.

Here's a link to a PDF from a well regarded german trackday organizer with some information about the sound levels in Spa: http://www.pistenclub.de/Portals/0/Anmeldung/Anmel...
Take a look at the last page to get the clue ;-)

I think it would be good to speak to your track day organizer how he handles the problems with cars which are too loud. I know that there are several days in a year which are allowed to be louder....

What reading did your Sag get, Olli? I understand that the limit is 105dB at this track day.

Should be Ok but close.

As sag gets more use the back box starts to resonate more and will fail 105dbA at some time.

I can't tell you....I got the black flag and had to sign a paper when I left the track, but I didn't get an information about the noise....and a discussion with the 'flag-man' wasn't possible because he couldn't speak english or german.
But I can tell you that my ACT-Exhaust is a little bit less noisy than the original one.

But as we speak about noise levels, it's very important to compare the right ones. There are several methods of measuring. For example, my values stated above are measure at a distance of 0.5m with an angle of 45° horizontal at idle and 5000 rpms.
If you have read the Spa-Information page, they measure at a distance of 1M at 75% of max rpm = 5400rpm to give access to the track. On the track they do a drive by measurement from a distance of 15 meters. So two completely different methods with different results...

Another problem with our Sags is the exhaust going to the side. Most measurements are taken on the left or right side of the track and the exhaust is directly pointing at the microphone.
Only a few measurements are taken from a bridge above the track (i.E. Nürburgring GP) which is a lot better for our cars.

Ah, that'll be why Graham had those backward-facing inserts made then. yes

Thanks for the info! thumbup

I've never had a problem at Spa even with a scrape through at 105db & i've always had the back up of silencers so was just a little worried about the Sag as i did not know i could get silencers for the ACT system!
Oliver i will be @ the Ring on the Saturday & Spa sunday so happy to meet smile
The thing with TVR'S is that its all about the noise for me so if it is not popping and banging i'm not smiling, a problem currently being rectified on the LS Griff smile
