I'm talking about the Saxos, Fietsas, Corsas with the fart cannons. (not my scooby!)
Are they a dying breed?
On the way to work this morning I saw a snowplough edition Fiat Punto with the a stupidly loud exhaust and when I thought about it that is the first proper chav car I've seen in over a month.
Anyone else noticed the sudden decline in these cars? Maybe its because the fast and furious movies have left that scene now...

You listed old woman cars, not chav cars.

Anyway its probably due to the prohibitive cost of motoring these days. Job seekers is only like £150 a week or something. Its just not enough for a car, a months insurance so you can get your document and then cancel it, photo copying your mates tax disc, a siphoning petrol kit and a kick arse ripseed donk donk dubstep sound system from halfords.

Oh and and the poorly fitting barryboy bodykit ofcouse!

Funnily enough, the last car I saw with a comedy huge exhaust and a chav behind a wheel was a scooby...

Insurance has pretty much put and end to the '17 year old in saxo with a baked bean can exhaust' stereotype.

Aye, sadly the first gen Scoobies are getting real cheap now. However the insurance isn't. I'm 22 and pay £1700....don't know how younger chavs afford insurance. Assuming they usually aren't insured at all /stereotype.

Yup, they are definitely on the decline.

I would agree that crippling insurance costs are probably the root cause too, I'm 24 now and I still consider my insurance 'expensive'. Ever since I passed my test I have been waiting for that age where insurance policies suddenly become a lot cheaper.

"Oh, it'll go down by time you have 3 years NCB"
"Wait until you're 21 years old, then it will be much cheaper"

Suddenly 25 is the new 21, and the annual increase in insurance premiums has meant that my policies have remained at a pretty steady rate throughout my driving lifetime! That is around £1000. Cheapest is this year, where it came down to around £850, for a diesel hatchback with a tiny little remap.

The only chavs you see now are those with money. Or parents with money. They drive much newer cars, but the 'modifying scene' is on the decline too, so there's less tat out there to actually buy.

Not to mention the recent disappearance of Max Power from the shelves. Which I was a little bit sad about (and not ashamed to say so!)

If the estate I live in is anything to go by cars on cut springs running stupid camber and tiny wheels with even smaller tires are they way forward, it seems that they have just moved to polos and 1.0 corsas. Body kits are a thing of the past as is performance as the cars cant go faster than 30 due to the now knackered suspension.

I'd buy a first gen scoobie in a heartbeat if the insurance wasn't so damn expensive, jap turbos are off my radar for the next couple of years.

What about the Vauxhall Nova, pioneer of the traditional chav car?

Those that can still afford cars drive poverty spec BMWs and Audis with fake M/S-Line badges these days.

They're big in the rally scene currently. Every rally I go to has them and they're always very fast. I do like a non chavved Nova.

I don't know what it is... whenever I see a scooby I automatically group it with the chav saxo/corsa/fiesta.

I appreciate they're really good cars. Did a few laps of the ring last summer in a fully stripped Gen 2 monster with sticky tyres and big brakes. But they're just so damn chavtastic.

They've all moved on to the "dub scene" and self harming.

It seems to be the golf mk IV and 16 year old Audi A3s that are the Chav choice with optional extra matt black bonnets around my neck of the woods also the occasional 18 year old 3 series BMW.
But they're also seems to be an abundance of old micras and polos which have rusty rat look bonnets riding on skinny steel wheels, but I haven't got a clue what that's all about and I'm not sure if that's a new Chav look or not.

There are also a lot less of the "older" boy racer cars around these days. The XR3i, the RS Turbo, etc. In fact I can't think of the last time I saw one of these on the road....and I live in Essex!!

I remember when I used to go out a lot more in the evenings (young and single) and you'd drive around and see a lot of boy racers out and about. These days, I hardly see any! Perhaps motoring has just got too expensive.

Massively offtopic but:
JSA is up to £71 per week for an individual. If you're under 25 years old, it's up to £56.25.

https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance/what-youll...

It only matters in the sense that otherwise people might wander about thinking the unemployed are on £600 a month JSA, and that's not true.

I agree with the change of trend comments. Big body kits, flip paint etc aren't the in thing anymore
