Of course not, but some of them think they are... they are like the wannabe bodybuilders with gloves at the gym.

The reason why i came up with this story is because some workmate tells me hes going way faster with gloves. Which is Crap...I think its a personal preference but no way its going to make you faster.
Unless youre a pro.

I wear gloves when it's cold.

I also wear gloves when I'm on a track.

Neither pair of gloves changes how good/bad a driver I am.

Edit to fix spelling that was stopping me enjoying my lunch.

Edited again to add that I'm really annoyed someone quoted my bad spelling while I was correcting it. FFS.

I can imagine if i had cold hands my driving would be worse.
If im ever shivering in the car my driving standard is much lower.

I don't think they'd help.

I have a metal gear knob, so I wear gloves when it's cold. It doesn't affect my driving ability.

Driving in thick boots, however, definitely affects my ability - adversely.

I got a pair of driving gloves as a jokey christmas present, just after I bought my MX5.

I don't like driving without them now. They don't improve anything, especially not my driving, but I just like how they feel.

Plus I feel a bit like Ryan Gosling in 'Drive'.

Your hands can get torn up and very sore without gloves. This will depend on the material and condition of the steering wheel, how sweaty your hands may get and the type of driving. Also a lack of PAS can make this very evident.

A day autotesting a V8 TR7 without PAS = very sore hands. Gloves would certainly have made me quicker later in the day and quicker on the drive home.

Do it. If you manage to pull off the look above, it will make your missus go weak at the knees.

Yes, that's right, not only will they make you faster, they'll make you more attractive and a better lover.

What's not to like... biggrin

(If you don't pull it off, you may risk looking like a rapist.)

Ignoring the moronic gym glove comment, I'd say that in my opinion, the right steering wheel & glove combination will increase the tactility aspect, and thus potentially engender more confidence (especially if one is prone to getting sweaty palms!)

Strange question. Surely gloves are just there to make you hands warmer when e.g. the steering wheel is cold?

Just like I'm fairly certain the reason body builders wear gloves is to protect their hands from the nurling on the bars and not to look extra macho?

Your question is just like asking if wearing gloves makes you ski better. confused

A decent pair of leather gloves do give an element of adhesion to the steering wheel which i find useful if i don't want it to slip from my grip.

Also great if you want some roof down driving on a sunny winter's morning!

I find the better adhesion between glove and wheel requires a lighter touch.
