Head light motors

Rebuild kits are available for Fiero headlights at www.rodneydickman.com/retail.html.
If you have a vice and typical handtools you can do the job.

Well, coming from a Fiero owner I can tell you that the headlight motors used on the Fiero (2nd generation) from 1987 and 1988 have been mentioned as a direct replacement for the motors used on the Esprit (years unknown). I believe the same motors are used on the Firebird and trans am.....not sure about the sunbird motors. These motors should be commonly found in the junk yards. You may note that the motors when swapped from a firebird to a fiero that the motors swap sides (driver becomes passenger, etc.). As mentioned before you can locate rebuild kits for the motors from rodney dickmans site. You might also check some of the auction sites for headlight motors. I've heard several people on my Fiero forum mention some pretty good deals on motors that way, including rebuilt.

The most common failure of the Fiero-style headlamp pod motors is that the 3 nylon bushings become brittle with heat and age and they disintegrate into a powdery dust. If you buy a part from an old car, chances are the part will fail in a short time for the same reason. Since you have to remove the motor either way (rebuild or replace), it's easier to buy the replacement bushing kit for about $5US from a place like Eckler's Corvette and rebuild the existing motor.
