So this week, its the X & K on my keyboard thats getting a battering whilst seaching the internet. For around £20K I am astonished of the amount of Car one can get for such a relativley (in todays terms) modest out lay, or look at it this way, and XK 4.2 or a a top spec New Fiesta!!
I found this particular XK60, whilst originally I did not like the body kit, in this colour and these wheels its looks sweet, and all for under £20K!!

What MPG's are people achieving with the 4.2?? I be very interested to hear of your experiences with the standard 4.2...

So would I. I don't have 20k to spend, but I do have the value of an XF 2.7d to play with. So tempting...

4.2 XKR around 18mpg around Town and 24+ on a run, not done any steady motorway miles but have heard of high 20's Amazing car for the money.
I picked up a mega bargain with warranty and low miles (35k) not going to advertise what I paid as it was a brilliant private deal just look long and hard and you will find them. Insurance is very very good compared to BMW, Porsches etc and servicing seems good too, great reliability no big problems like some and reasonable MPG.

Big costs are tyres, brakes etc but shop around.

Compared to my M5 its a car that makes you feel special and the gearbox is a work of genius in sport mode!!

Oh yes and the noise, remove fuse no 19 and for no outlay on expensive exhausts you have an amazing sound. Although I am tempted to go louder!!!

Its a car that got overshadowed by the Astons but with the reliability and costs its a winner now!!

Do it!

I get about 35mpg in my Xj-D, over 40 on a run, My gaffer would need convincing that I could achieve at least 30Mpg on a run.. I doubt thats unattainable though?? Damn they are soooo tempting.

Go for an XK 4.2 they would manage 30mpg every now and then, and there is one on Trader with 65K for £15K !!!

Stop it.... It's bad enough the left hand side of my brain telling me to do it!! It is joking aside a serious consideration. I know my mates in their late model M3's, RS5's and 911's would be a tad envious...

Now that is a little different form the normal Silver/Grey and I love those wheels looks great in that colour but would lose the Wood !!
The body kits is available on XKECC at a bargain price I'm in two minds about it but it looks right on that car.

These can't drop too much more there just so good.

Ring Classic Line and get an insurance quote I think you may be surprised.

I've set the ball rolling with regards to MPG..... Now need to start buttering up 'er in doors, which conveniently enough starts tonight!!
That body kit is the XK60 kit, yeah I did not like it, but in that colour and those wheels it does look good, only down side is the mileage, a bit high, need around mid 30's... If I did buy it I would put the new 5 ltr chin on it !

I would want to know if the car had any crash damage. The car is a 56, the xk60 model was much later, however it was offered as a kit by the dealer (I think). The wheeels are unusual. The colour is rare. Almost looks lowered.

I think it looks great and being offered by a main dealer gives some comfort.

Put a deposit down yesterday on a 2010 XKR convertible.
Hope to pick it up on Monday. You get a lot of car for your money!

Well spotted that man, yes I concur with all of your points.. I would only ever buy from a main dealer with a big group behind them, such as Sytner or Pendragon, etc etc. This way you can find the reginonal directors and moan to them if things go wrong and they dont get sorted locally.
I am however struggling to convince the missus that I should swap the XJ for an XK...

I swapped my AMV8 for my XKR (which I am now considering selling) and although every man and his dof knows about removing fuse 22 on a Vantage, this is the first I've heard about fuse 19 on an XKR... I didn't think the XKR has exhaust flaps so not sure how removing a fuse would work? Going back to original query, I get about 21mpg combined from mine, with 24mpg on a run. Fabulous car and in many ways better than the Aston...

OP
this isnt helping at all!

I have decided that my next car will be a jag, it will be my first jag..

And like you, i have discovered the stupidly low prices of the XK.

As stated in my thread, ill be buying either an XK or an XJR from around 2006/7

just got to decide, do i want the more expensive pretty coupe, or the more powerful saloon... its such a pain to have this desicion..

Whats peoples experiences of the power of the XK non supercharged?

I dont want to buy one of these and find its a bit damp

also, knowing the fact that the XJR is around 5k cheaper and has 100bhp more, ill be even more upset

Mine is the 4.2 XKR and it does have the flaps in the exhaust not so sure about the 5Ltr but I have decided I need more noise, so looking at Exhaust options!!!
In what ways do you think it tops the Aston, as the Aston wins on looks and name ??

I've owned the 4.2 XKR and now have the 5.0 XKR. They both have active exhaust flaps which the removal of fuse 19 (behind the rear seats) will result in the flaps staying open.

Regarding power, my business partner had the XK 4.2 whilst I had the XKR 4.2. I don't think he was ever really left wanting in the power department!

Indeed having now purchased the 5.0 XKR I'm wondering why I didn't settle for the 5.0 XK an buy a used Elise with the difference!

Re the Aston - I think the XK is better in the technical dept but the badge isn't as good and neither is the interior. The Aston somehow feels more special despite not actually being..

Scotius, the 5.0 Litre V8 came in to the Jaguar range during Ford's watch. The normally-aspirated 5.0 engine gives 385 bhp, which is more than the bhp of the earlier 4.2 litre supercharged engine in the earlier XKR of 2006-2009.

The 5.0 Litre supercharged puts out 500 bhp. You'd need to be looking at post-2009 cars to get the facelift and the new-generation engines. For what it's worth I tried both the 2009 onwards XK and the XKR and decided that the normally-aspirated engine is more linear in it's power delivery and gave a sweeter drive.

The 5.0 litre V8 features direct-injection and other new technology stuff over the 4.2. Jaguar I think claimed it is 10% more economical than the 4.2. I get 24 mpg on most longer runs in my MY 2011 XK Coupe. But, use it for short stuff and stop-start running about and it'll struggle to break 20 mpg though.

Early 2009 XK coupes with a bit of mileage on them are just about hitting the £29,995 mark now. I've had mine for 8 months; very good car, my first ever Jaguar. Much admired for its looks which leave all the German stuff looking dowdy in comparison..

The supercharged 4.2 in the 06 - 09 XKRs are quoted at 420PS (414bhp).

EDIT - Correction, 426PS, 420bhp - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XK_%28X150%29#...
