Real world Out of town MPG F10 M5

IMO an unrealistic expectation - plan on 20mpg and be pleasantly surprised if you get that up to 21mpg or 22mpg overall.
A long motorway journey may see you north of 25mpg if driven with reasonable restraint, but if that is what most of your journeys comprise and how you are going to drive, might as well buy a 535d.

Depends how you drive it, I am seeing an average of just over 20mpg, but see more on steady motorway speeds, in town when cold you are down to 16......
The trouble with the car is the torque is addictive, so very easy to press on!

This is the sort of info I was looking for, most all my driving is out of town, so it should be reasonable fuel wise.;)

It's incredibly good, considering the size of the engine etc. i forgot to mention that mine does like oil quite regularly, but I think that's down to the amount of slow town driving it does - about 1 litre every 1000-1500 miles. From what I've read on other boards, the oil consumption varies wildly from car to car, irrespective of how it's run in. Apparently, most do like a drink, particularly up to 10,000 miles or so, at which point it's said to ease off. I've only done 6000 so can't vouch for thatI have done 15,000 miles and I think I have put in 4 litres, so oil consumption for me not so bad.
If you have the service pack, BMW are supposed to top the oil for free, but on two separate occasions I have gone to different dealerships ASAP after the oil warning light goes off, they have checked the key fob and told me the 'computer' wasn't recognising the need for oil. Annoyed first and really pi**ed the second time, so just carry a litre of my own oil in the boot now.

I got my first top up within the service pack and was lucky that the warning came on at the end of the week, so it wasn't a major hassle to run to the dealer on Saturday morning. But I didn't want to be caught out when the next top up was needed, if it happened mid-week etc, so asked for a spare, but the answer was 'computer says no'. I bought a couple myself instead, but was annoyed because Porsche will always leave me with a spare bottle whenever the 911 goes in. Thats a bit excessive if you ask me, I never put a pint in any of my last few cars: E90M3, B7 RS4, 550i F10 M Sport, NO Oil used!!!!.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
