The old dear turns sixty this year and has been baderging my brother and i for photos of us for ages. Everytime we're home (not that often as brother works on superyachts) she tries to line us up and take photos.

It's never going to work and produce a decent photo. (and i would be pleased to see the back of the school portrait shots and university graduation photos that currently adorn the house...)

So, i've decided that i'm going to arrange for some professional photos of my brother and i. Whilst there's obviously the classic type route, i was thinking of something slightly different (as well as offering the conventional) but don't really know what.

Can the power of PH point me in the direction of people who come recommended? I'm London based & my brother will be staying in Southampton for a while from the end of the month.

You need a Bloke to do that.

However, Southampton's not really close for him.

It (probably) goes without saying that you do not want one of those "High Street" places. I was at a friend's last weekend and they were proudly saying that they'd trotted around to one of these, who included a make-up session, then were highly shocked and surprised that they were asked for £1000 for a couple of prints. They know I am an amateur photographer FFS - they could have at least asked if I knew anyone good.

Anyway they partially succumbed and bought a print which they eventually showed to us. Good grief! Made up to look a bit like a goth and a fuzzy, unattractive window frame behind their uncomfortable poses! I have demanded I go round there next month and take some shots for them at a fraction of the price (an evening meal and a glass of wine!) I was absolutely shocked what some people will pay for!

PS - do you think know what you want that's different, or are you looking at the interwebnet for some ideas?

For example, Bloke managed some like this for me!

That's helpful thanks.

I'm not sure different in what way especially, i just know that we don't want a 'ok, sit there, like that in front of that backdrop, on a sofa... and smile' kind of thing!

Will have a browse around for ideas!

Then you should consider some environment or props relevant to your interests. Depending on what that is you will want to be out of the studio of course.

Tch - don't often not like the Mods, but if I give a link that's OK, another PHer (who has been around more than three minutes) links to their own site and it's nono

What the OP wants is some ideas of styles!! Yeah - I know there's some advertising going on, but no one's twisting anybodies arms.....
