I've just had a nightmare scenario where my car keys - for my SLK and my C1 - were lost; as it happens they were found in the garden several days later, but in the interim period I was booking the cars in to have new keys and just to replace the keys - let alone locks etc - was £450~ (£296 MB, £144 C1) yikes These are not covered by my household insurance.

Any PHers got any GOOD things to say or recommendations as to some well priced insurance for keys being lost or stolen? There's plenty of stuff on offer but who is any good? My experience has brought home to me just how expensive and inconvenient this can be.

normal car insurance can cover your keys (I know I'm covered for lost keys on my Aviva policy)

Not all policies.

Some will only cover lock replacement up to a certain amount.

Your car insurer may offer additional protection for an extra premium.

That is the case with mine (Privilege); however since it's an extra premium I may as well have a scout round and see if anyone has any good service/horror stories.

It's not something I ever bothered about until I was faced with a potentially pretty big bill.

For future reference.

No idea what the acutal insurance price would be like but they do cover loss of keys.
