Hello,

Off topic rambling in another thread made me wonder why the UK was riddled with electric milk floats in the 1970s but now (with our focus on CO2, amazing technological advances and rocketting fuel prices) they all seem to be Diesel.

Is it just that the decline in daily deliveries required too large a range from the things?

I used to see (and regularly overtake) the one near my mam and dad's house when I was driving home from work at night. Though round here, it's all delivered from the back of a diesel transit. Far less romantic.

We've still got them around here, on an H and J plate (that's 1970 and 1971 wink ). I tend to see them at the end of their runs, so lights are dim, and they barely touch 5mph.

I think they were killed by the supermarket and the birth of the tetrapak as the milkmen are also a pretty rare thing
