Mum's Corsa was booked into our local dealer due to a suspension rattle today. She handed over the keys, they took it for a road test and claimed to have found 'nothing out of the ordinary'. After this they said they'll give us a loan car (12 reg Corsa) and have another look at everything on the ramp tomorrow.

Mum hadn't had an accident for over 15 years so decided not to tick the cheaper excess option for an extra £10. We had to go somewhere after being given the courtesy car so went in it. Then I heard a loud thud, I looked over at mum who said she may have hit a deer.

Drove back to the dealers with the hope of simply getting our car back to avoid any further bad luck but the site had been locked. The service manager was around, mum asked him to look at the car but he said to come back in the morning as he's not an expert but that we'll most likely be looking at the cost of a replacement bumper.

I've had a close look and it looks like it may get away with simply a new lower grille if the dent in the bumper simply pops out without damaging the paint or the bumper as the trim from around the foglight was still intact.

I bet the old deer is feeling a bit gutted about that, but she will have to pay what she Roes for the bumper unfortunately

You'll pay the full excess unless it's some massive number. That's easily a four figure repair.

Been here, except you seem to have got away with just superficial damage. My tale of woe ... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=122...

The excess was something like £2.5k and the service manager said we most definitely won't be paying that. He said if the bumper does need replacing, they've put new ones on the new shape Corsas for £400-£500 incl. paint.

Deer o deer these jokes are bad - I'd of "hoofed" the grille back on. Hope it doesn't cost too many "bucks" to put right

Just thought I'd update this thread. We returned the car to them this morning and they rang with a quote before lunch - £801.50.

Ouch, frown I don't know if there is any way you can lessen that figure?

Maybe sneak into the yard after hours and torch the car, they'll soon forget about the bumper*

For what exactly, a bumper, lower grill, and a spray, they are having your pants down, even at dealer prices that's taking the piss surely?

This is the break down they gave us of the bill - I have replied and asked them what parts it needed replacing.

Labour - £120
Parts - £407.50
Paint - £140
VAT - £133.50

10% of the value of the car just to put right some minor damage?

The whole insurance/repair industry is madness. They can only charge it if people pay it though.

If I was buying a used Corsa give me the £7200 one with the dent and £800 in used tenners in the glove box over the £8000 one.

Doh indeed!

Is that trade or retail?

I don't believe that they are paying retail - they are trying to make money out of this I suspect.

If it was their money I'd bet that would not cost £800

Call their bluff and say you'd like 3 quotes? Or perhaps that you'd like a repairer of your choice to view the car and quote?

From the pic it looks like a grille plus a push to the bumper from the inside!
