What an education - I will never ever do that as I am 'handless' but at least I know what it looks like. Amazing that God made people who actually enjoy struggling with widgets - where would we be without them !

Luna that is excellent some very good hints thumbup
I put some electricians tape over the pins and caliper area just to prevent any damage on my last Vantage
Also worth inspecting the piston surface for pits or corrosion

When are you doing the rear hand brake pads wink

Never.......... They shouldn't ever wear out if they're adjusted correctly, and your name isn't Jockman who, just in case his car gets away from him, prefers the security of driving around with his handbrake onhehehehe

Superb video and exactly the kind of stuff I like to see on the PH forum. I am guilty of revering my D99 to the point of not feeling confident doing even the simple stuff. But thanks to your efforts watching the video helps instil confidence once again! Excellent work!

Thankyou very much.smile.... I know working on cars isn't for everyone, but I quite enjoy doing a few videos on the simple stuff, and if it helps someone who's not quite sure, then its worth while....

One thing I didn't add in the video, but its worth a mention here...my car is on axle stands due to me waiting for my new sills..

The Aston Martin is one of the most difficult cars I've ever had to jack up, the chassis is so stiff, that you jack on one corner, and the opposite corner goes light.... The strength in the chassis must be immense, and the only way to do it safely is 2" at a time......I have 2 trolley jacks, so I'd put one each side, and jack 2" then go to the other side and same again, then back again and so on, then a bit at the back, all the time lifting the axle stands to meet the chassis....

It took me 2 hours to get the car level on the stands, and get all 4 wheels off....yikes

and another vote of thanks - seems like they can actually be like normal cars sometimes!

Two quick questions - are the rears straightforward too and what make pads (and where did you source them - sorry, that's three questions)?!?

Mine are getting pretty worn and I do not feel inclined to be held to ransom by the dealers for a straightforward job!

Yeah, Stratstone just changed me the best part of a grand to change mine...

Not that I'm brave enough to do it myself, I'm pretty cack-handed.

At the end of the day.... It is the BRAKES we're working with here, if you're not confident, it's best left to someone who is...smile

But to change pads front and rear.....half an hour per corner so 2 hours + parts.... Doesn't equal the best part of £1k...nono
