I am new in this forum and a new Aston Martin owner after selling my 911 turbo. I have just bought a 2009 DBS model with only 2.700 km, it looks totally new. However I hear a noise (some times, not always) especially at 3.000 rpm aprox., like vibrations, as a ventilator. At higher or lower revolutions , engine sound is perfect. Do you have any similar experiences? I understand this is not normal.

Thanks
Matías

Mine doesn't ,is there a specific circumstance when you hear this noise or is it random?

I don't have this, but there is a definite resonance on the engine at that RPM (I have uprated exhausts and it barks at around 3,00RPM, quietens off and then all hell lets loose), so it maybe something as simple as an exhaust touching a heat shield or a bracket broken. It happened on my V8V and if the heatshield has been removed and not refitted correctly, this could do it. Very annoying, but also very simple to cure.

As I say the resonance at around 3,000RPM is probably why it is at that specific RPM you hear the vibration. Worth a look on a ramp at the local dealer.

Could it be anything to do with the butterfly valve if you don't have fuse 22 removed? That opens at 3k rpm doesn't it?

Possibly, but there is a definite resonance of the engine at around 3,000RPM. I don't find it intrusive, but it exists...... trust me biggrin

yes, I will go to local dealer. I initially thought the noise was random, and especially in the deceleration at 3rd gear. however I am currently finding that noise is constant at 3000 revolutions aprox. And when it is cold sound is normal.

I went to AM dealer in MAdrid.

The noise (an upset vibration) come from the motor, and it sounds ONLY at 2.900-3000 rpm and when temperature is hot. The 1s step was to change the oil (by the way in MAdrid they use CASTROL 0w30 instead Mobil 1 ow40, I don't know why). After changing the oil the noise continues. So, the recorded the noise and sent it to Aston Martin factory to analyze . We are waiting for news. We will see.

Do you have experienced similar noises?

thanks

Its normal sir. All engines running 0w30 make strange noises. We can swap to 10w60 to quiet it down a bit. wink

Could not resist given the other post on oil.

Hope they fix it for you.

and is it normal that this strange noise is only at 2.900 rpm? When rpm increase above 3000 rpm, noise disappears

They use the thicker oil because you don't need the low temperature cranking abilities of 0W and 40 will stay thicker at operating temps.

Maverick V12 engine noise advice needed!

Are there any current DBS issues? I remember people moaning about steering vibration caused by brake discs. Was that all resolved?

Hello Matias,

I'm having precisely the same issue with my MY 08 DBS. Could you please let me know whether you resolved the problem?

Many thanks
