Hello again chaps,

Off to most likely look at an E61 M5 at a main stealer tomorrow. It's a 2007 34k mile car on for £25,999.

Frankly - I think this is expensive - (having followed the threads of the difficulties people like Eddie had selling theirs (although Eddie won out in the end!)

I've actually never ever bought from a main dealer - always Indys or private.

Anyone got any thoughts on how much I should be looking to get off the car?

Happy to do the usual push for an extra years warranty, servicing etc but I hate giving dealers a penny more than I should.

Cheers!

Start at £24,499 cash and see how desperate they are to sell. I would not pay their price ever. That is just too much today!

Hi

That does sound pricey but then again I do not know the full spec etc.

That said, hopefully I can give a little insight as to what you can successfully table to get a good deal derived from the current price using my own recent experience.

Be under no doubt a deal is there to be had, they will give you the patter about how they have potential interest elsewhere but ignore that. I think at the very worst you are dealing at £24k plus an additional years warranty. They will undoubtably squeal long and hard but I think, should you be happy to tough it out, you will end in a shake of hands.

I liked the look of an 09 E63 M6, fully loaded, low miles etc which was up for £34,995 last October. To be fair it was not unreasonably priced but I ended up dealing at £32000 plus a free application of 'seal & protect' which by the way is a £365 application and one I thoroughly recommend - it is well worth the money and is as good as BMW say it is.

The dealer came back with £34,000 straight away before moving to £33,500. I held firm and said it is indeed value at £33000 but due to my personal circumstances could only reach £32000. The salesman eventually said (a full week from first view) 'if you give me a card number and happy to put down a £2k deposit I will try my manager once more as armed with your details and deposit it shows willing' I said ok try it, which he did and reluctantly (so I was told) his manager agreed - and with the 'seal & protect thrown in'

I think you should try £24k plus a second years warranty and the seal & protect'? If this really is not forthcoming maybe conceed the S&P but insist on the warranty. It may take a few phone calls and a week to agree but I think that deal is easily achievable.

Also worth asking them what they spent preping the car and asking for a copy of the internal invoice(s) to keep with your paperwork. Mine had 3 brand new tyres at a cost of £997 which I was pleased to see and really happy with.

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on but trust me you are not taking the mick at £24k + additional warranty and if you get the S&P as well then well blagged and I think a very fair deal . As I said may take a week to achieve but show them you are serious, stick to your offer and I think you will have a smile on your face.

Cheers

Thanks so much Shadow - that's really good advice. It's properly specced - full leather (including dash, soft close doors, logic 7, usb, etc etc). Black with Red leather. The leather to be frank is the only downside I have with this car - plus the fact that black ones are the most stolen for some reason!

Try to negotiate a second years warranty (surely a must), some ££££ discount and a full years tax at least plus any other bits and pieces (tyres, servicing, bodywork) as they can add these for less than it will cost you in the future meaning that whilst you depreciation will technically be higher your overall running cost will be lower.

If financing it is fairly easy to get an APR of less than 10% from experience on an AUC car.

Thanks Fromee - I'm financing a part of it - but I always make sure I have more than 50% in equity to cover worst case. Zopa (great place) is doing 7% at mo.

No worries i think mine is 8/9% which isn't too bad and saved the hassle of a bank loan and i intend to pay it off earl. I think taking finance with them will help sweeten the deal to an extent........... pro's and con's to both i suppose and sometimes its a small price to pay for convienience smile

In my opinion if you want that much off the price go there and negotiate in person and be prepared to sign there and then. Over the phone they can't be sure just how serious they are. Or aren't.

I for a change see it is a good price if you want a low mileage E61. At present there are 8 cars for sale in the whole of the UK...

This is the only one, which is below 40k miles, comes fully optioned and is an AUC. The next best is mine if I get off my arse - I am toying with the idea of selling it and the 540i to buy an X5 as a towing car...

44k miles, Monaco Blue, Full black leather and aluminium trim, Soft close doors, Ski bag, Logic 7 etc, recent oil service (12k to next), rear pads 1000 miles ago, recent PS2s all round, BMW AUC Warranty until August, Tax to October... I own it outright and don't see a reason to sell it unless it fetches good money simply because nothing even comes close to it in terms of ability... Thus if you want a car, with low miles which you can enjoy for a while, you are stuck with the BMW AUC that you have shown us...

P.S. Car looks lovely - go for it... And let us know what you thought when you pressed the M button wink

I have been keeping a keen eye on the AUC website over the last week or so and am reasonably sure that when that car was first listed earlier this week the price started with a 2 and a 4..... Might be worth mentioning wink

I believe that it is not unknown for prices to be adjusted once a car is in stock and has come out of the workshop. If there has been some additional work done that was not originally budgeted for then maybe this could have happened?

Either way it looks like a lovely motor, hope it all works out for you!

Now that IS fascinating.... I wonder if there is a cache on google that has it.

Thanks for the heads up.

Cheburator - I'm the guy local to you who was asking about car crime and your moving to chislehurst (I live near blackheath).

Shall I PM you?

I love the red leather personally. I think its got the wow factor plus I like things that are a little different.

looks really great.

one question, why do alot of M5's sit like that? like lower at the back end with the front end sticking up? very strange.

My recent experience when going for an M5 I managed to agree the following

10% off the price
Even after they had prepared the car I got an issue with the tyres and tracking sorted I was not happy with although it passed the BMW AUC specs
Car delivered to me
Tank of fuel in the car on delivery (these days even thats a few quid)
Full detailed clean of the leather focussing on the leather to sort a few issues out I wanted
