Mk3 Roof latch spring problem

When I was putting the roof up this morning I caught the little post that sticks out of the hook that holds the roof in place when it is up and a spring flicked off. It's about 2" long with black plastic tubeing on. I can see one end gose round the post, but I can't see where the other end hooks on. It dosn't seem to do much other than stop the handle flapping around, but its irritating me. Any ideas?

got the same on my Mk1. drivers side catch lets go at about 100, scares the st outta me!

any tips will be greatly appreciated

It's probably not the same!!! Different roof mechanism!

The mk1 is probably just loose. With the roof folded back and the latches facing up, flick open the metal 'door' like thing, and therre is a long hex nut inside, tighten this up with a spanner and it will make your catches tighten. Don't over tighten it as it could rip the roof, but it needs to be quite stiff to fasten onto the catch properly.

Have you got apic?
It may connect somewhere under the handle?

Ill get a pic as soon as I can get in to the car. Unfortunately the one and only key (thank you mazda dealership for taking 3 weeks and counting to get me a spare key) is in the boot... No idea how to sort that out...
