Well, there's two things that I always wanted to change on the 3R: the Noddy-horn (sorted!) and the steering wheel. Following on from Bob Tomlinson's excellent decision to choose a Momo Millenium steering wheel for his new M400 I decided to go one better and personalise mine to the interior - looks the dogs and is probably the only one in the world (methinks?!).

Looks great! It's amazing how much better that looks than the stock wheel.

no offence but that is disgusting the standard 3R wheel is much better than that. Sorry.

Wait, are we talking about the same wheels?

Stock wheel:

Stock wheel with center cover:

Momo Millenium with custom center cap:

Maybe it's just me, but I don't particularly like the boy-racer carbon fiber bits. The Millenium has a classier, more understated look, with I'm guessing, far better grip for those of us whose hands actually sweat sometimes.

I think that looks great. Would like to copy :-)

What's the impact of losing the original horn buttons? And how did you do the customisation on top of the Millenium wheel?

Not convinced by the "bling bling" shiny rings on the wheel.

Regardless of anyone else's comments...I think your new wheel looks fantastic! It is much better suited to the interior, and actually looks as if the interior were designed around this bit in the first place. I must say "good eye" you know your stuff mate!

How did you get the leather embossed? Via the factory?

Definitely a huge improvement on the plastic laden factory item, although I tend to agree with Justin on it being a tad too bling

And here are a few of my 3R with a new Momo JET wheel, as well as a new Momo shift knob. In the sunny south of the USA, the stock knob was just too hot to even touch !! Note the Noble dual oil pressure and temp gauge as well.

Photo negative, wrong way round, which means in the US the rev counter and speedo must work backwards!

Siban, Dan,

You asked about fitting:

The original wheel comes with a black Momo logo-ed centre horn push cup - this looks good but I wanted further customisation.

You have three choices:
1. Leave the stock Momo logo-ed centre.
2. Customise the centre-push to your choice of leather colour (without a logo).
3. As 2. but with the embossed Noble logo.

Fitting:
1. Nothing to do just fit and advertise for Momo!
2. Get your choice of leather (this doesn’t necessarily have to match your interior – your call!) and have a trimmer fit it - believe me, it’s a specialist job - I tried it myself first! ;-(
3. As 2. but either have Auto-interiors in Barwell (they did my custom interior) supply you with a Noble logo-ed piece of leather or alternatively, if you have a 3R, you can sacrifice your stock centre pad leather facing as the trimmer can remove the leather (that has a Noble logo), note though that this will double the trim time/cost.

There are a couple of fitting caveats – if you’re considering this email me and I’ll explain.

Typical cost is one hour’s labour (or two hours if they need to remove your Noble logo-ed leather from your 3R centre pad).

Well, as always, a good cross-section of views and comments:

Gotapex,
thanks for laying out the photos – these make my point perfectly - an evolution in style and design! :-)

Joust, Lucozade, Davey S1,
Funnily enough I too felt that this wheel was a bit shiny (bling, bling if you will!), after seeing it first in Bob’s new M400 photos recently. However, I “needed” to make a choice and the Millenium seemed (to me) to be the classiest (ie: most expensive looking, stylish, usable and customisable) available.

Believe me, the interior is instantly transformed into a more classy/expensive looking cabin – you really do need to see it in the flesh (the photos seem to pick up the shiny bits a little too much - although, believe me or not, these bits actually work well to complement what‘s already used in the cabin!).

Regarding the stock wheel, each to their own style vision but, sorry but to me this is too cheap looking –lots of plastic and two red plastic buttons that scream “boy-racer” (and sound “Noddy” but that’s another story!)! Most importantly though is in operation - I think the rim is a little too thin - the Millenium has thicker ridges at the 10 and 2 positions that really feel right.

Wes,
Funnily enough I was also considering your Momo Jet wheel too (but not the black but the silver verison) however, as my main objection to the stock wheel is mucho faux (ie: plastic!) carbon fibre, and the Jet follows this theme, I had to dismiss it!

Ultimately, I love my new mod – (I feel) it looks stylish and expensive, “works” better than the stock wheel, and is (currently, at least!) totally unique!

PS – as I didn’t destroy my stock wheel pad for the logo, should I ever need to dispose of my M12 (boo-hoo!), I’ll be able to offer the lucky new owner a choice of steering wheels - so as not to offend - LOL!

I couldn't agree more, thats why I changed my wheel, shift knob, and that noddy horn even before I drove it more than a few days. Shipped in one those air horns that is a direct change out from the UK, don't recall the brand at the moment but found out about it here, on PH. MUCH better suited to the car !

Looks great Rob and ignore the bling comments as a little bit is good for you.Whilst we're on the subject though, can someone tell me which trim is likely to have a higher bling rating -- a plastic imitation of carbon fibre or the finest hide covering brushed steel ?

The steel, Bling is about shinyness (it is the sound made as light hits a diamond apparently).
