Analogue speedo stuck on 40
Discussion
Mine does this and I've got the clocks all ready to come out, only I'm struggling to remove the steering wheel boss! Once I've done it I'll hopefully be able to let you know why! I was told the needle is coming off the worm gear, also my perspex screen touches the needle and need fixing back into place so this is another reason to take it apart.
Found it, I'd saved it in my email account.
Managed to get home from work at a reasonable hour last night 1830 so thought I would fit the LCD display before it got dark.
Took the pod top cover off and disconnected the leads for the cover and examined the inside of the POD for about 5mins then did the following:
Removed 2 screws from the left side of the POD bracket so the POD can be moved around a bit enabling me to get to the other hard to reach screws.
Removed any electrical cables that got in the way, so big one at the back, one each side for indicators and POD control.
Each circuit board is held in with 4 screws, so unscrew first 4, easy to reach now the POD can move about, then carefully remove the circuitboard, with fine tip pliers I loosened the other spacer type screws and did the same until reaching the final circuit board.
No need to remove that sucker as it doesn't get in the way of removing the screen. But the round thing with a cog on does get in the way (good technical term) i think it controls the speedo dial, 2 screws and out its removed.
Screen Can now be removed, doesn't really want to come out as such a tight fit, but my advice is don't be shy with it, it will come out with slight pressure, and maybe a flat screwdriver to help it out (remember you have a new one, so doesnt matter too much)
Trouble you have is fitting the new one. Doesn't want to go in... in fact I even measured it against the original one to see if it was the same. It is... same seriel number and same size so it WILL fit.
Took me a short while but it needs to be seated just right to fit. When it is seated right firm pressure from behind will pop it in (don't forget to remove the protective plastic film!) then do the reverse of everything to remove and hey presto in!
Whole job took me an hour!.... until I went to put the pod cover back on and and realised the were 4 extra small screws not used.... careful examination revealed I had forgotten to use these to screw the screen to the pod! so... off it all came again at lightening pace to beat the imminent darkness that was looming...
Got there in the end, screwed the pod top cover on as it got too dark to see...
Other advice.. use 2 small cable ties, one each side of the pod for the electrical connectors, they dont really fit tight enough and if come loose mean you will not get control of your pod and lights wont work

Yes I saw that posst a few months back from the Irish chap (forgotten his name) You don't need to but I've got mine all loose now and one of the ball flaps for the face drier has come out too so I just want to remove it and work on it on the dining table so I don't lose anything. Last resort if the boss just wont budge will be to fix the alloy bit back in place and take it apart like in the the topic created. It would be SO much easier though to take the unit out in one piece!!!
You don't need to remove the steering wheel, I did mine a few months ago based on the post from "the Irish chap". It's pretty straight forward just take your time and ensure you lay the pod items out in order of removal.
Here are some images from when I changed the LCD display and re-glued the glass.

Am I right in thinking that the white round thing with the connector is for the speedo needle?

It is, as I recall it's held in with a small screw and is removed after the four circuits boards have been lifted off - it allows final access to the LCD. Despite how it looks it really is pretty straight forward, as mentioned before just follow the instructions (from alinton,) take your time and be methodical.http://thumbsnap.com/sc/0tImP5pV.jpg
