My new car, 205 GTi Restoration

As a few people know I'm in the process of having my 205 GTi restored. I bought the car last year as a good base for restoration and as its now progressing its turning out to be even better than expected.
It may 'only' be a 1.6 variant but it really is a fun car to drive and by the time I'm done with it, it should be not too far off new.
Bearing in mind its 22 years old now its virtually free of rust, I went and had a look after the first week of it being away and well..... the pictures below speak for themselves!
Its due to be away for another two to three weeks, really cant wait to get it back but I want it done properly!
Anyways here are a few pics, I'll update this thread after I have another look this weekend. These pics are after 5 days in the bodyshop.
And this is the second part so far
The passenger side is almost complete and all the glass has now been removed other than the driver window and the sunroof. The windscreen has been taken out but placed back for now to help with keeping the dust out.
The finish along the passenger side is better than expected and will look great once paint is applied in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to next Saturday to see how its progressed again through the week
The next update will be over the weekend at which point the car will have been away for three weeks.....

It looks like a nice base to start with. Just one thing, it looks like a lot of filler is going on - are they using a polyester filler primer?
A lot of what you can see is a surfacing agent of some kind to allow a really smooth finish. There isn't much filler under that at all, the filler is white where the surfacing agent has more of a yellow tinge to it.
As for types, I have no idea, i'm not an expert on these things

That's probably polyester filler primer then. Not a bad thing at all - just the photos make it look like several skims There isn't much filler under that at all, the filler is white where the surfacing agent has more of a yellow tinge to it.

French metal is notoriously thin on these and it ripples really easily, would imagine a bit more has been needed to straighten things up. There weren't many dents at all on that side, the drivers side is worse though.

These were refurbished by the Wheel Specialist in Fareham and its just their standard anthracite colour. Might be worth giving them a call, good guys down there

Being in the process of restoring a Ford from this era, I know exactly what you mean There weren't many dents at all on that side, the drivers side is worse though.
It will be superb when it is done - it is a lovely colour. It seems remarkably free from rust.
My Jaguar is the opposite, metal wise. It seems to be made of a heavy gauge of steel which doesn't pick up dents, but sadly was very poorly protected from corrosion. So whilst the metal is nice and thick, the damn thing was still rediculously rusty.
