Hi Everyone.
New to the forum...

Im just wondering what your opinion is on what sorta car I should get next. anyone do this sorta driving?

We cover between 10-15 miles a day but the longest journey is 1.5 miles. consisting of over 10 short journeys. which obviously kills the MPG.

With 2 kids getting rid of the car is not really an option.

The MPGS with my past cars with the driving above:
Fiat Punto 1.2 (2000) 23MPG
Honda Civic 1.6 Sport (2002) 22MPG
Focus ST170 2.0 (2004) 17MPG

We do the odd moterway journey of around 20-30 miles round trip every couple of weeks, and long motorway journeys every few months where we get about 29MPG on the ST.

Need something of a similar size to the Focus, could do a little smaller, prefer hatchback, and a budget of around 2500.

And is it at all possible to have something thats as fun to drive lol.

Thanks in advance

Something with a small petrol engine. Short trips will destroy a diesel with DPF etc.

With that usage you could probably make a big case for a hybrid.

I'd just get a small engined petrol MK1 Focus. Your journey profile means good MPG is never really going to be possible.

22mpg out of the Civic is impressive, even on short journeys I can't get mine below 30.

From what you've said I'd suggest something like a Yaris 1.5 T-Sport - decent MPG and still good fun.

A diesel without a DPF. Have a 57 plate Roomster 1.9 TDI which has survived 55k of this.

Ten cold starts 3 days a week. 4 or so the other week days. Try to give it a better 10 or 15 miles trip at the weekend or mid week, and a long journeys every few months.

49mpg average.

Original battery a bit tired. Dodgy throttle potentiometer and broken fan resistor, but nothing else has failed. Get one which doesn't pull to the left or its new front tyres <20k. Backs just changed at 55k, but would probably last 65k.

Cambelts at 4yr/60k is a pain and intervals are 10k. 30ppm all in over 5yrs. Paid 10k for a 3k/6 month old demonstrator.

Really practical. Love it, in a white appliance sense. Seats tumble and lift out for tip trips. Big enough for family camping, and keeps the kids and missus out of my cars ;-)

Would need to be an early one to get in budget though...

man, you have a heavy right foot!! Sounds like you need something like a C1/Aygo/107. They give decent MPG no matter how they are driven, coz there is no turbo....
