Hi folks, not sure if this should possibly go in the home mechanics section or not, but I'm looking for a bit of knowledge here please. I've got a Peugeot 206 1.6 HDI GTI and have a feeling the injectors may be in the process of dying on me. Over the last couple of months there's been a bit of an exhaust smell coming into the car (I set the fans to recirculate when I'm not moving), and having popped the bonnet today I've noticed a build up of an oily looking substance around one of the injectors. It's actually hard but quite brittle rather than being a fluid, so I'm thinking the injector could have a leak and the fuel is then getting baked on? Pics are below, with links to larger versions. Any advice on whether my suspicions are correct would be much appreciated, and if so any recommendations for a good mile-muncher in the Basingstoke area for up to £2500 would also be a big help!

Thanks in advance.

Most likely just the seal that has perished. Shouldn't be too expensive to replace the seal. Personally, I would be inclined to just leave it unless the fumes are creating a hazard.

Can be very tricky to replace however.

+1 had the same issues on my wife's commuter. It was cheap to fix OP. Get it fixed.

However, if the turbo ever goes, throw the car in the bin. The costs to replace exceeds the value of the car in 90% of cases as it requires replacing dozens of components, stripping the engine down, and is likely to fail again anyway.

Bloody awful engines.

I would post a youtube video of a car off the ground suspended by a chain attached to it's stuck injector, but I don't want to get told off for not putting it in the youtube thread. hehe

Cheers for the replies everyone, much appreciated. I'll get a quote for replacing the seals, though I'm trying to avoid spending any money right now with a house purchase going on. Once that's done then the wife's given me permission to buy a new car, so it just needs to last about another six months.

6 months until you get rid?. Wear a warm coat and drive with the window down.

Also had this happen on the wife's 307. Was cylinder three . It's pretty simple to remove the pipes , HP pipe and then the injector. The seal was totally knackered . Whilst I had the injector out I had it tested for a tenner. Got the copper washer free and stuck the whole lot back together. It's worthwhile sorting it out , even if you only have the car for a few more months. Cost of a washer and an hour or two of your time if your hands on.
