It's very sad. Hopefully not another nail in the coffin for rallying in the uk.

However, I must be honest and say I'm genuinely surprised there's not more incidents such as this that we hear about.

Heard from a friend who was there that she was on a bad corner and no one else was stood there, guess she didnt go to rally/know anything about going too fast off the far side of a corner.

Heard about this on the radio earlier. Very sad.

My few experiences of marshalling CofI suggest that people will stand in bad places because the view is better. Making a bit of an assumption about this case.

Tragic.

Though I am amazed at just how close you can get to rally cars...

Absolutely right.

I understand a child was also injured in the same incident, but the injuries are not life threatening.

We live in a free country, and if a grown adult wants to stand 6 inches away from a rally car hurtling down a narrow track at 100mph on shale, then that's a choice they make. They are grown ups, and understand the risk.

But when I see adults with young kids in tow, I shudder. I would never in a million years expose my kids to that level of risk.

Sad news but this is my local rally and not the first time something similar has happened. I'm not sure how you go about making these sort of things safe and fear for the future of this and other similar events.

Edit to say, if they ban this then they should also ban hill walking as more people have been killed in the last month or so doing that locally than a year in UK rallying.

Sadly many, many grown ups do not understand how and when a rally car is likely to loose control. Been rallying since 1979 and this is not a new problem. Crowd management is done by volunteer marshalls, a very very difficult job of trying to keep the stage clear of danger.
I would say the vasy majority of spectators do not realise how on a knifeedge control is and often control is lost well before the corner.
Real tradegy for family, the crew, the marshalls and a reminder of the dangers inherent on rallies where any person, be it a photographer, marshall or spectator is at risk.

Very sad news. No doubt it will have some people moaning about rallying again, sadly. It's a dangerous sport, to participate in and watch. I don't know any of the details as to how this happens, so I can't comment on this specific matter. Though I would hope that anyone watching a rally would appreciate the dangers on standing at track level, even on the inside of a bend.
