A few of you know about the fiasco that developed regarding my engine and mapping.

Just when I thought it was nearing the end, final RR mapping at Austec Racing revealed a loss in power.

I asked for a leak down test and guess what, 4 cylinders failed badly through valve leakage. Not bad as I had just had the heads overhauled!

So this mornings job was to remove heads and while I was down there, remove the front cover so I can check the valve timing, (not yet done).

This isn't a moan,...............err, yes it is I guess. A warning as to what could go wrong.

No names, no pack drill.

Gonna have a curry and a few beers to soak up the pain banghead

This is the last thing, can't think of anything else to go wrong!

Austec will do the heads on Monday and I will assemble during the week, probably finish on Saturday as it's a busy week!

The story so far.

I built my engine and fitted in June 2012
3K later and we travelled to the Ring, great week only spoiled by the tapping sound from Dover that turned out to be a failed set of solid lifters, especially one of them!

Due to a heavy workload, I commissioned a 3rd party to rebuild the engine as the failed lifter had killed the whole engine.
Several weeks later I picked up my engine complete with top hats, reground crank and loads of new parts, yippee!

I bolted it in and fitted Megasquirt with a new commissioned loom.

When the mapper arrived to map, the engine made random oil pressure which curtailed the mapping.

I hired a trailer, transported car back to builder to solve the problem.
He allegedly did and 2 weeks later I met the mapper there to carry out mapping.
Begger me, still random oil pressure. When there was pressure, there was a constant miss at 4K!
With a shrug of the builders shoulders I took my car and headed home, mapping also aborted.

I changed the front cover and oil pump, (thanks Dom!) but IMHO the problem was a slightly loose pick up pipe.
After I rectified this, Lordy, oil pressure abounded smile.
As to the 4K miss, I found the fault to be a fault in the loom on the coil pack fly lead.

Mapper returned and mapped as best he could, (which wasn't bad) until a new correct TPS could be sourced as the original one he supplied was wrong.

New TPS that i sourced arrived, I fitted but the mapper couldn't remotely calibrate it and the car ran rougher then an Essex rough thing!
With Alex's assistance, I upgraded Tuner Studio so it would self map and what a reasonable job this made of it.

I booked the car into Austec Racing for some finer RR tuning where we found that all the work that i did on the twin plenum was worthless as there is more airflow with the 72mm single plenum!
We changed to the single plenum and begger me, the car started blowing fuses on the starter motor circuit which turned out to be another fault on the new loom!

Austecs rewired this and because I'm truly pessimistic now I requested a leak down test.
More "begger me", 4 cylinders failed through the newly lapped in valves, (by others) so I took the car home.

I stripped it down yesterday and will take the heads to Austecs who have all the machinery in their extensive workshop to do what is necessary.

Next step, rebuild top half of engine, get Austecs to remap it and drive............................

6 months wasted frown

That made me laugh.

Not really moaning as I have a high depression threshold, (must have with 4 children) just a heads up on what can happen and a little story to make you guys with perfect cars smile on a dull Sunday!
