Bonnet Suddenly Jumps Open?

That suggests that the bonnet may not be adjusted correctly, so that the two bonnet pins don't land together. If the bonnet has to twist to enable the second pin to latch, it'll be under tension. It may also be that the bonnet pin is adjusted slightly too short so it's not able to engage the latch fully.

Are you telling me that there is no solution to this and they all pop up from time to time? Is this a design fault? I know you can fit after market catches, but I thought that was for rallying and such. Oh dear! I better start practising jumping out the car every so often in the traffic to shut the bonnet then!Tony. TCB.
I had the same problem for a while, and I found that I could wind down the window and close it without stopping. After several attempts to make them perfect, it now stays shut, the catches don't get stuck open, but one side needs a gentle push forwards to open the bonnet. Not a bad result I think.....

I have found that since I adjusted the hinges, slightly raising the front edge of the bonnet, this has made the pins more vertically lined up with the catches and stays shut. I have since been over some quite rough roads with no problem.
Must be that they were not fully through the catch??
Norman's info will no doubt help, but it is probably a trial and error job.

Mine kept popping up too every time I hit a bump / pot hole (plenty of those in the UK) and no matter how many times I adjusted the upper latches it would still do the same.
In the end it was a simple fix for me as someone on this forum suggested adjusting the lower bonnet hinges which I did and all has been fine so far.

A friend of mine is going to have a go at making up a 20mm longer pin. It may be a while but I’ll keep you posted on the result.
Hi Joe,Where are you going to put the extra 20mm? The pin length is already adjustable to allow setting of the closed height of the bonnet - I can't see how a longer pin is going to help?

My pin is at the full length available and I've no adjustment. If I tighten it down the pin won't catch in the latch. Hence my theory about the possible solution being a longer pin. I'm hoping the a few extra mm will allow the latch to engage more fully. I'll then cut off any surplus above the locking nut.
