Hi guys,

For my new set up, I have a Harman/Kardon BDS 570. It's hidden away in a solid (opening front) cabinet.

I was hoping just to get a simple cheap IR reciever to plug in and be able to control it this way (so as I do not have to open the cabinet everytime)

I asked in HK store and they can only suggest a bit of kit that costs north of £100! (Non H/K can't remember the brand though)
Surely there a simple, inexpensive way of doing this?

edit: This what I was looking for I think. Is it as simple as plugging in and away we go, or is there a reason why I need the mega expensive option? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Infrared-IR-Red-LED-Sens...

Actually there is a socket on the back (according to a PDF manual I found by googling) But the manual is unclear if that plug in receiver would work, might be worth a go though.

I've used the Keene IR transmitter on my previous house and just about to use it again on my new one, works well I think

That's the one I've got and agree it works really well. I thought it was about £100 though?

That's pretty much what I use to send the signal into my solid cabinet, had to drill a hole in the bottom of the cabinet to run the wire through mind.

Keene are good.

Global do a tv link+ based on the sky eye system & Perless do a repeater systems whic I carry my truck at all times.

Alternatively, If your looking at an intelligent / all in one remote then Logitech Harmony's with RF links are great also.

Cheers all, seems there are others out there for less then. Just need to try and find one out here in Dubai, or else I will have to get it shipped from the UK

The Logitech Harmony 900 universal remote would be ideal here. The remote uses RF, to talk to an IR 'blaster', that relays the commands. The key thing is the blaster has two off shoot IR transmitters you can place in a cabinet or somewhere else out of sight. You can setup which devices are controlled by which transmitter too, so no problems of wrong device responding to wrong command etc. Works really well. Having used it for a year or two now, I now find it really backward having to actually point anyone else's remote at their telly!

Isn't a cheap solution mind, getting on towards £200. Tis a great universal remote, with decent PC/Mac software setup, Li-ion battery and charging dock, colour touch screen and so on.
