I bought my Chimaera back from the friend I sold it to after he wrote it of... Anyway, he had fitted a different gear knob and I've now put the original back on but it keeps coming undone and when tightened up the selector pattern is upside down. Should there be a collar of some type or does the knob just screw on? Would using threadlock help?

There does seem to be a collar on mine ... haven't worked out how to adjust it though! biggrin

Hi
There should be a collar under the knob that lets you tighten the knob in the correct position.

...I *BELIEVE* it should have a small lockscrew that holds it tight.

Thanks, that's what I feared. I'll see if I can get hold of one from a salvage yard smile

my '99 450 has a collar below the gear knob that acts a bit like a locking nut.

Not on mine - just the shaped collar underneath.
And it does tend to come undone until you get the knob and collar locked together. You can adjust the height of the collar to suit the orientation of the know by trial and error.
So just keep fiddling with your knob and everything will eventually tighten up satisfactorily

QB lives at 2 feet above sea level in the Fens.....in the same webbed-fingered county as Chilli. I wasn't born in Norfolk either....
