Just about to fit the oil cooler ,why can i blow throught both pipes ? should one be blocked due to the stat not being open.

I thought it opened when the oil got to a certain temperature ,maybe its duff!

I think there always needs to be SOME oil that goes to the cooler - for bleeding.
Otherwise you heat up the oil to temp, and when the stat opens, your oil pressure drops (because the oil goes into the empty cooler) and it kills your engine.
Only when the stat opens, all the oil goes through the cooler. But I would check that before assembly.

Maybe an oil temp guage would tell it was working ,the guage would show a drop when it opens .

It has to have a flow how can you fill the oil to the level when you have a 3l void ready to be filled as sone as the temp rises and bye bye engine

I think you are all missing the point, on a cooler that is temperature controlled a small flow of oil is required to flow around the cooler if it didnt the stat would never have any hot oil to open the stat and allow it to flow and thus be cooled ,you should theoretically not see a change in temperature on a temp gauge as the stat should keep the oil temp constant at whatever temperature your particular cooler is set to.

Thankyou I`m a bit worried about damaging my engine ,is it possible for me to do something wrong ? if it air locked would that stop circulation around the engine .

Yes the auto bypass does the job . Y plan always has an open port so theoretically no Bypass needed.

Going to get someone to look at it before i fit it ..
