In the process of planning our new house build and I'm trying to plan wires/layout of the entertainment.

Now it's only a 3 bed semi and we are only staying there about 2-3 years untill we upgrade and rent it out, so don't want to go silly.

I'm thinking a sonos 5 mounted in the top corner of the kitchen (where the "social gatherings happen") and getting a sonos Connect to link up my onkyo home cinema in the lounge and finally a bridge to connect it all.

That sound like a good setup? Would I want/need the sonos sub in the kitchen or do the sonos 5's have enough bass for a bit of a party?

A couple of questions:

The kitchen will have a 32" wall mounted tv, I hate tv speakers so any way of running that sound through the sonos 5?

This will all be controlled from my iPhone, I believe this will give me access to my iTunes music liabry, however, sometimes i like to listen to music from YouTube, how would this work?

And finally, I will be getting fibre optic bb so should be nice and quick, is there any real benefit in running it all off cat 6/5 cables or will wireless be ok?

Thanks guys

Actually, thinking about it, I currently have an apple tv linked up to my surround in the lounge so I can use AirPlay there

Rather than having to invest in £000's for a different system for the kitchen I could just get one of these (apple AirPlay enabled)

Also look at the B&W A5/A7 if you fancy something good quality that looks a bit more subtle than the Zeppelin.

If you just want two zones, this would be the route I'd go. The beauty of Sonos for me is being able to have the same track playing in multiple rooms at the same time. Before I had Sonos, I'd put music on in one room and end up listening to it from a couple of rooms away whilst I got involved in doing something. With Sonos it just follows me around the house, but if you want different music playing in different rooms there is no advantage to Sonos over an Aiplay solution.

I saw a number of places were giving the bridge away free with the Play 5, so worth having a nose about to see if that deal is still on. It's only £40, but you have to have it and if you can get it for free you may as well. Anyhow, I think the Play 5 is an excellent bit of kit and you don't really need to get the sub to run with it, it produces a decent amount of base. I have a fairly decent set of speakers in my living room so use the Connect to get my amp talking to the bridge. After listening to music through these speakers I always expect to be a bit disappointed when I use the Play 5 but I'm not, it never fails to surprise me how good it is.

I haven't done it, but yes, you can can run TV sound back through the Sonos. I haven't done it, but a work colleague uses a pair of Play 3 devices for Stereo through one of his TV's. He also said that this is particularly good if you only want to listen to a TV program in another room as he regularly pushes the sound from a TV to a device in his kitchen so he can listen to programs while he cooks.
