A pal of mine has a 2007 997 turbo gen 1, which he bought 3 weeks ago from OPC network.
We are doing a 2 week road trip to Europe in a few weeks, and he reckons he wants to get the car remapped for the trip, and then put back to standard when we get back, so as to maintain his Porsche warranty.
Is this possible, or would the dealer know it had been mapped, albeit temporarily?

Don't know about the gen1 but the turbo gen2 softtronic remap is not detectable.

So, your mate wants to lie to Porsche about what his car has been doing. And we wonder why Porsche can be so anal about warranty renewals.

Why spend circa £1500-£2000 on a map then for it to be removed? confused

Or do you mean, remap it and if the car goes wrong can it be removed and not detected?

I guess it will be possible however why anyone would want to do it is another question confused

I know you haven't named your friend but pls be aware that OPCs do read these forums...

Nothing against re-mapping but deliberately deceiving (and enquiring about how to go about this on a public forum) is a bit daft isn't it ?? nono

Fraud then. Excellent idea.

They will be able to tell, and they will void your mate's warranty if his engine goes.

With the soft tronic map you use your own laptop. So you pay £1500 but can remove and re.add it at will using the provided cable which plugs into the obd port near the passenger side footwell

Actually it is shock horror when Porsche cotton on to this and then charge us even more when performing the pre-warranty checks (looking for hidden re-maps etc).

Or increase price of the warranty due to additional costs incurred as a result of this type of insurance fraud.

Sadly, it seems there are always some dis-honest people in life who try to cheat the system which makes the honest ones pay in the end.

And to publicly ask "how can I defraud my warranty" is just plain stupid IMO.

I'm no expert on these things however isn't such a modification on a 911 turbo likely to turn the boost up? I'd bet that the car will record the boost levels and hence an OPC would be able to tell a car had run on a modified set up even of the map had been subsequently removed.

Bingo.

One of the things that the ECU will record is peak boost and peak revs.

If the remap alters either, they'll know.

From what I understand, when the original ECU image is restored, as the softtronic software reads and writes the entire ECU, it will wipe all this information back to how it was, with the proviso that the car was stock when the image was uploaded to your laptop before you re-programmed it.

no system is foolproof but I have not seen one post where someone has blown their engine due to a softronic remap on a gen2 turbo, the gen1 engine is made out of sterner stuff, another 65BHP or so is not going to implode that lump.
