Dealers - London Area . . .
Discussion
Right! Whilst awaiting my perfect first Summer Toy to materialise in the Classifieds, TVR is now nibbling away at my consciousness. So I have started doing a little research, but I need to get hands-on and see what they are really like and go and view some.
Are there any recommended dealers say within 50 miles of London? I've come across Racing Green, are they worth a visit?
Admittedly a Lotus Elise SC is top of my Wanted list at the moment. So what convertible TVR would be recommended? I have a flexible budget of up to say £20k, but less is preferred. I assume the likely candidates are V8 Griffiths & Chimaeras?
Will buying from a known dealer be a safer bet than going private, in terms of mechanicals and warranty etc.?
Oh, the car will be kept on a London street so needs to be waterproof!
Over to you guys!

Worth a visit. Plenty of stock and very friendly. You'll pay more but the cars and aftercare are very good.

Seconded. These guys will sort you out with a very good car. Can be a little dearer but consider that the aftercare charge and you'll be OK. I really can't speak highly enough of them.Worth a visit. Plenty of stock and very friendly. You'll pay more but the cars and aftercare are very good.
As for a dry one. Good luck with that, it's a bit of a lottery as far as I can tell.

Another vote from me. Bought two Griff from them. Drew and Simon will look after you. Take a trip down with your questions, very helpful guys and will offer some straightforward advice. I was in there last week collecting the Griff after a service - great stock in the showroom. You will pay a bit more, but then the warranty and aftercare is well worth it in my opinion.

Another vote for Fernhurst. They are more expensive on paper but you'll be able to negotiate added extra's or money off (or both) - at least from my experience.
I'd recommend taking out the griff 4.0lt pre cat (non pas), a chim 400, and a 500 of either variety. Make a day of it :-)

Just spoke to Simon. Will pop down there in an hour or two! : D
Any initial comments on Chim vs Griff as a first TVR?!
Oh god, don't start the Chim vs Griff debate....Any initial comments on Chim vs Griff as a first TVR?!

I would suggest the Rover V8 engined is the best proposition for a first time TVR. As for the body type - I think it comes down to what you prefer the look of. I drove both, but I liked the Griff more - ultimately I always wanted a Griff, and also prefer the looks and interior of the Griff.
The telling thing is suspension set-up these days - they are getting on a bit now, so anything with new shocks will be different to drive. I bought Nitrons for mine, as the shocks were a bit old and banged about - it transformed the ride, well worth the upgrade.
Anyways, I digress, it's best to make up your own mind by getting in the driving seat for a hands on experience. Enjoy! You wont stop grinning

Righto!! Looks like yours Russell. That is the one that has caught my interest. None of the colours really grabbed me, but that may well be to do with the looks of the car. A bit more dated than what I have been used to of late.
Price would include fully serviced, 12 months tax and MOT, a tourneau cover of sorts to stop leaks penetrating during the week, and a fitted sports exhaust! does that seem reasonable guys? Out of interest what price would we be looking at if that was a private sale?
