Any good lease deals on mid-size "Execs"?
Discussion
Hi All
A friend of mine needs a lease car within the next month or so.
He was initially looking at spending a good monthly chunk on an XJ on a 20k miles per annum deal. He's not really into cars, and as he's only 35 I tried to convince him to get something that might suit his age and image more.
It can't be too flash, but needs to soak up the miles with ease, have a bit of oomph when needed, and return good MPG.
If it was me I'd be looking at an F10 535d. He doesn't really like BMW but I'm trying to convince him to go and take a drive in one before ruling them out.
Any other options? Criteria are: good spec, good mpg, powerful, 'luxurious', low as possible BIK implications:
F10 5-Series (wonder if there are any of those Active Hybrid's hanging around?)
New 640D Gran-Coupe?
Merc E-Class
Merc CLS
Jag XF
Can anyone recommend any current good deals? Target around £600 a month with 3x36 up front, 20k miles per annum.
Cheers

You tried to talk him out of an XJ? Are you mad?!
He's 35! I know the XJ is a lovely car but he'll look like the Mayor of Barnsley turning up to work in one. It's his decision obviously, but I just wanted him to at least consider other options.

Ok they might not fit the 'low key' image he's after but M3s and M5s are on 0% APR at the moment... Just saying!
He asked me about the M cars but he wants to lease through his business rather than buy personally. I've explained to him the financial benefits of buying his own car and claiming mileage etc but he wants the fixed-cost benefits of leasing.Myself though...

Pretty much all of the above cars will fit into the budget (can I message you my figures directly?)
Please do!Krikkit said:

Can you really get an xj for 600 quid a month? If he can definitely this , its an amazing car .He was initially looking at spending a good monthly chunk on an XJ on a 20k miles per annum deal. Why suggest something like a standard e calls that you see everywhere and is nothing special when one could have an xj.

I've just leased an E220 and I'm 34, and frankly far too young for the car. At least I tell myself that.
(But it suits me because it's very comfy for long journeys and even though I'm on a 10k p.a. lease, business mileage from work will cover the difference). It's coming in at £224 + VAT on a 6+23.
A Jsg, to me, has a much younger image although it is sensitive to colour and spec.
Try http://www.vehiclesavers.com - they have an E250 Sport at £280 + VAT on a 10k deal but I'm sure they would do other mileages. I looked at a 15k deal on mine but I'd have to do a minimum of 14,800 p.a. to break even with a maximum upside of £1.50/month .... so I obviously wasn't going near that one. While the E-Class isn't as good as a 5 Series or Jaguar XF, let alone an XJ, it's massively cheaper to lease.
In general I'm extremely pleased with it, but as a work tool rather than a thing of beauty, status or pleasure. It makes my life much more pleasant though!

I would love a current shape XJ.
They look fantastic and modern.
I bought my S Type last September age 20, it has recieved nothing but positive comments from friends my age. Initially i got one or two old man comments, but they were said jokingly.
It also feels modern from the inside, despite the fake wood. I would imagine a new XJ would feel much more modern again.
Id have another in a heart beat.
[Obligatory Pistonheads Comment] The 3 liter petrol supercharged XJ looks very tasty! In the real world i suspect economy wouldnt be too far off between the petrol and diesel. 25mpg for the petrol vs 35mpg for the diesel. [Obligatory Pistonheads Comment]
