So, I went to get car insurance quotes. I put in my job of draughtsman. The quote is £1200. I notice the option to put draughtswoman. The quote then, is £900.

WHERE THE fk DO I COMPLAIN?

You've done all you need squire. PH will take this on for you now. Sit back, have a cup of tea and be assured that the wheels of help have been set in motion. thumbup

Will anything change in time to save me the money I am being unfairly discriminated against for? I doubt it.

Did you change your title to Mrs instead of Mr? if not all it tells us is that insurer has received fewer claims from draughtswomen than they have draughtsmen...

PH collective wisdom is that you change your name by deed poll to Sharon.

Best of luck having babies.

Which is gender discrimination. Men can not be draughtswomen and women can not be draughtsmen.

From now on, I want you all to call me "Loretta". It's my right as a man.

You're right! I'd suspect if you call up and explain, they'll match the quoted price of a draughtswomen. Worth a punt and report back? I'm interested in their take on this.

I think they'll set it straight sharpish if you let them know, but just for good measure write to every news making company you can think of so no one else gets stung.
Hurray for having a gender-neutral job title biggrin

I put "Woman" into the search and got this list:

Saleswoman
Craftswoman
Draughtswoman
Postwoman
Sportswoman
Storewoman
Warehousewoman

:/ :/ :/

This isn't with a specific company btw, it's GoCompare.

Insure yourself as a draughts woman and then sue them if you have a problem later down the line.

It doesn't have anything to do with gender, that's exactly the same difference as between draughtsman and fireman. There are fewer claims attached to that word in their database.
If you received a cheaper quote calling yourself Mrs, that would be discrimination.

This. Just what are they going to do about it?

Surely Insurance companies are in the business of discriminating? confused

If the stats say one occupation carries a higher risk than another, they load the premiums accordingly. Same with postcode, car model, miles per annum, etc, etc. If the stats tell them draughtswomen are a lower risk than draughtsmen then they charge different amounts. Don't they?

Mr and Mrs are gender specific words. They are not allowed to quote differently for different genders due to EU ruling.
Man and Woman are gender specific suffixes. Ditto, surely?

GoCompare.com is 50% owned by the insurer eSure.

I'm almost sure the job of a warehouse operative wasn't gender specific last year.

Not sure if this is troll or not
but essentially this is exactly what the insurance companies are now doing
they cannot directly take gender into account, but they are taking a closer look at other factors
i would not be surprised if a 19 year old male nurse with a pink car will start to get much cheaper insurance than he would have done before the rule change
