Hot / warm hatch. 5 doors only. Smaller is better.

Budget: Sub 10k. Open to any suggestions - but must handle and steer properly - a lift-off oversteer tendency when pushed is a good thing!

If only there was such thing as a 5-door 205 GTI / GTI-6 / 106 GTI - but these are mostly old sheds now anyway - same goes for mk2 Golf GTI.

What beats the Fiat?

Mazda 3 MPS? I am looking at selling mine soon....

What about a 500 Abarth or a Punto Abarth?
Mini Cooper S?

What's the reason you don't want the fiat?

Not an obvious choice, but have a look at a Mercedes A200 Turbo. Dynamically it's not in the same league as a Golf GTi, but it is reasonably brisk and the interior space is amazing given it is only a few inches longer than a Fiat Panda. The only thing is it's heavy on the petrol compared to something like the Panda...they're also pretty rare so you would have to hunt around.

He said five doors??!!

...what about a basic suzuki Swift? Mazda 3 1.5 - 5door...Skoda Fabia VRS, for a leftfield diesel alternative or a Seat Ibiza FR...either diesel (2.0TDI goes well), or the 1.4 TSI in its various guises...

..more powerful choices include the aforementioned Mazda 3 MPS, or Focus ST, or Mk5 Golf GTI...Seat Leon Cupra, Vauxhall Astra SRI 2 litre (old shape), Toyota Corolla T sport, BMW 120i or 120d....

There are plenty of warm /hot hatch alternatives out there if you think outside the norm..

Nothing - I quite fancy one, just wondering what else has the same spirit.

Suzuki Swift is an option. Chassis is more important than 0-60.

I should add that for the last year i've been driving a 2005 Civic Type S (the 2-litre 5-door), bought when my head was prioritizing motorcycles. I wasn't expecting it to be fun and it isn't.
