Why oh why oh why is it that retired wannabe bank managers and aspirational small business folk insist on evosticking a 6 inch modified phallus to the bonnet of their x or s type?

Imagine the uproar if the corsa boys began to attach lethal extras to their cars

And relax. ....

Could you not have just stuck this in the "One single thing that makes you think knob" thread?
It's really not all that exciting though. Calm down dear, drink tea etc.
I know, let's outlaw any kind of modification, won't somebody please think of the children?

Germans seem to like them too frown They also seem to like to add chrome around the lights on the XF. I despair...

But please think of us poor souls who have purchased cars with them already affixed !!!
I have recently purchased a S-Type R after a long search in a perfect colour, spec combo for me, and as good ones are now getting thin on the ground did not want the offending article to be a deal breaker, im now left with either replacing the bonnet or driving round with it or a hole in the bonnet. I would never fit one and agree with the comments above but !!!!!!!!!!

Whilst I wouldn't put one on a modern car myself (especially as it would look really daft on my Porsche smile ) - I can't get worked up about the issue - if people want to put mascots on their car, so what - there are much worse and even more pointless things added aftermarket to cars are there not?

I think it would look rather good on a modern Maser.

I occasionally think about fitting a leaper to the bonnet of my S-Type, in the traditional position on the nose. The only reason that I have not so far, is that mine is a colour coded Sport model and I like the streamlined look of the car without it.

That is a pity, because, like the Spirit of Ecstasy or the winged B, the leaper is a nice thing to drive behind. Don't knock it until you have tried it. Without this, the S-Type bonnet is rather featureless, as was the old Mk.II and S-Type on which it is loosely based. That is the appeal of a leaper. The XJ has never needed it, nor does the XF or XK as they all have sculptured bonnets which are designed to look good from the driving seat.

With regard to safety, it is important - I have no wish to injure a pedestrian - but most bonnet mascots are available in break-off or fold back mounts. I don't know anyone who has had a problem with the police over one.

If your "equipment" looks like a Jaguar mascot you've got other things to worry about biggrin

I think the S-Type looks great with a mascot. Fitting an approved mascot will not give any problems and will make the car look good.

IMHO a leaper looks really naff on a the bonnet of any recent Jaguar, especially the S-Type which has been my car of choice for the past 12 years.

Especially if they've done it off a motorway bridge!
