Was going to purchase online a bottle of "EasyCarbo - Easy-Life liquid carbon fertiliser 500ML" but then wondered would this conflict with the carbon media in the filter?

Carbon dioxide won't react with carbon (well, it does at red-heat but not at 25c), and I don't think it will be adsorbed by the filter either.

One thing to watch for is liquid carbon doesn't go well with Vallis, it will make them shrivel up.

Also is there any reason you have carbon in the filter? It's not needed unless you're removing medication or tannins (from new bogwood etc) out of the water. If it's been in there more than a week or two it won't be doing anything anyway. I'd junk it and replace the space with more normal biological filter media.

Having recently got rid of a 200 litre tank (struggled to keep it clean & stocked due to less spare time these days) I bought a wee little £50 all-in set up from the local shop. It came with some carbon pellets in the sponge, so I've just kept it going as is. I replace the pellets every month ish. If there's a better way.. all ears.

Ah yes I know what you mean. I'd just replace them with a ceramic biomedia and then you won't ever have to replace them, just rinse them out with old tank water every month or two when you do a water change. More space for friendly bacteria to colonise and cheaper too smile
