7GT3 Front Brakes
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Changing my front brakes this week and looking to replace with std discs with RS29 pagids.
Couple of questions please;
I'm used to running OEM quality brake parts and replace the rears only 3,000miles ago. Will I be ok with the pagids on the front and std on the back, or should I change the pads all round to maintain good balance?
Will the Pagids be noisey under normal driving? Or only under hard use?
Where's best to buy 911? Design?
Thanks in advance!
Stevie

the 997 has good brake bias so the rears actually do their share (unlike on the 996). as such you want to be careful about mixing pad choices unless its actively to adjust balance to your liking.
as an aside, the factory pads only begin to let you down once on a track. outside of track conditions you likely will have so much braking reserve that you get little benefit from the RS29 as a result.
if you are relatively DIY capable, consider keeping a set of RS29 (or whatever) for track use and running stock pads the rest of the time. this saves the track pads for where they can provide the extra benefits and avoids the potential headaches regarding noise, wear and dust that come with them for regular daily use if this aspect is of concern for you.
fwiw, PFC08 compound seem to be the hot ticket right now. folks are ditching RS29 in droves. apparently the same general behaviour but better release/modulation and they can be run right down to the plate.

PF08 is replacing PF06 so if you're buying a full set, I'd go for the same all round. And on brand new discs you might avoid squealing - just don't forget to bed them in properly:

I tried to run rs29 on my v8 m3 in everyday driving and they get noisy as hell unless you commute using the nordschleife.. I would seriously scare ppl walking around. Louder than a London bus..
But they were very very effective when paired with PF 2 piece discs. Very. Good bite from cold. Good firm peda feel. Good fade resistance.

Just to be sure are these the ones your all talking about?

Secondly Carrera S ones won't fit my car as I'm running PCCB but now with steel disc, so which pads do I buy that actually fit my car, anyone know?

Does the C2S with PCCB not just essentially use a 996 GT3 front brake set up ie 6 pot and 350mm x 34mm discs.
If so you would use the pads for this with the usual caveats regarding clearing the hats depending on what disc you were running. What front steels do you run?
For PFC08 the part number is 7819.08.17.44

You will be fine. That 7819 shape is actually a bit narrower to make sure it clears the pfc rotors. It's mostly pfc rotors with non pfc pads that have issues.
Its really comparable to a 8004 pad shape rather than the 2707 shape that the original pads (and pagids etc) are supplied in.

The PCCB on C2S is 350x34mm front and 350x28mm rear. Calipers is 6 pot front and 4 pot rear I think. I'm using 997 turbo disc all round. If so you would use the pads for this with the usual caveats regarding clearing the hats depending on what disc you were running. What front steels do you run?

Guys just a wee update on this.
After advise on which pads to go for, I plumped for another set if OEM discs, (Texstar 108.00 + vat ea.) and PF08 pads. New brakes always feel good regardless, but so far pedal feel is fantastic and bite is awesome. Not noisey, although there has been the slightest of chirps when pulling up to a stand still, overall I'm delighted so far. Nice cheap set up too with the whole lot costing around 500 plus fitting (which I get our own guys to do). A tad better then OPC 1400
Got my annual geo check done at Kenny Browns today too. Glad I did. Porsche Glasgow fitted a new front damper under warranty in dec and make a right pigs arse of my camber settings. They even managed to mess the rear settings up too
.
Cars driving like a dream, all ready for a year of fun, starting with a 700mile round trip to Kylesku, then N24 in May.
Bring it!
