Door speaker replacement
Discussion
Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the driver's door speaker on the T-cars (specifically the Sagaris but I'm guessing it's the same for the T350) please?
Mine doesn't really work these days and I think it is water damage. I'd quite like to fix it before I go off to Spa at Easter.
Cheers!

Whilst we're on the subject... Is there a higher quality but same size speaker option that will defo fit? Has anybody found and swopped for high grade door (and for that matter rear too) speakers? On my Tuscan I could get self amplified subs down between the back of each seat - not so on the Sag. Simply not enough room anywhere to secrete power amps, except where the tyre weld goes perhaps. The thing is, I want better sound, but without making bigger holes for bigger speakers or having a bulky amp or sub in view spoiling the aesthetics. I know Carl Baker would be the one to ask, but I think he's moved to France hasn't he?
It was fitted by a previous owner but I've got a standard sized Alpine amp fitted behind the passenger seat in the T350. Fits just about ok and can't be seen at all but gives a big improvement on the sound quality. Also had 6x9 fitted to the rear and upgraded larger door speakers with separate tweeters too, again fitted by previous owner.
I probably wouldn't have had it fitted but I do appreciate the sound quality when I'm not busy enjoying the speed 6.

Yes loads of speakers are direct fit. I have upgraded the front and backs with better speakers.
It is just down to what you want to pay, I can not remember the size but they are a standard size and there are loads of options.

Hi Jon
Yes changing the fronts is a nightmare if you have the original NXT ~3.5" with four mounting screws within the circumference. The depth is also an issue as there is no room for anything deeper. I believe these were custom built for the Sagaris. I'm still looking for a replacement but if you find a replacement please let me know!
The rears though easy peasy. They're 13cm and I was recommended Infinity Reference 5032i which are great as they're 2 way. Cheap as well. Bought from http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_...
If your stereo is 50w x 4 (MAX), 24w x 4 (RMS) then there is no point going for more powerful speakers.
Hope this helps
Neil.

Hi Neil. Thanks, this does help. Typical of TVR to fit something non-standard. The rears though easy peasy. They're 13cm and I was recommended Infinity Reference 5032i which are great as they're 2 way. Cheap as well. Bought from http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_...

Ok, so given that I probably do have those NXTs you mention, that's probably replacing the fronts out of the question given my timeframe. Perhaps I will sort the rears then. Right now I have sound coming out of the passenger door, not much on the driver's door, and muffled sounds from the rears. It's because the car got damp, I think. The driver's is definitely due to water ingress as I had a leak there.
So replacing the rear's may give me something back, although on my trip to Spa I may be loaded up with equipment and luggage which will make the rears less effective.
Ho hum.

I didn't realise they were so small! Diameter looks to be roughly 3" and Halfords have precisely one set of speakers in that kind of size at 3½" and which have only two holes rather than four.
How old is your TVR? Have you measured the speakers? Can you post up the exact size and a picture of the old ones? This should be such an easy job, I am no where near my car or I would post you a pic of mine.

It's a 2005 car, and the speakers are the ~3½" NXT flat panel speakers that were fitted to many of the T-cars of that era, as Neil mentioned earlier. Would anyone/has anyone consider putting speakers in the luggage cover moulding behind the seats ??? Although I mainly listen to the engine/exhaust with the window down, sometimes I want to listen to a CD, and with carrying stuff in the boot, the rear speakers are a waste of time...
Just thought bringing them nearer the cabin might be a big help ???
