I ordered some number plates from a company i found on the internet.
this is a quote from their site

Why Choose ***********s.co.uk

We know you have a choice of which company to shop with for your number plates and we thank you for considering ************s.co.uk. The internet can be a most unpleasant shopping experience if you choose the wrong company to buy from. Other companies will offer free delivery, an assortment of other goodies to get you to buy from them. What we do is promise you the following:
1.A truly first class product.
2.Despatch of your order either the same or next working day.
3.Dedicated telephone support should you need us.

i ordered a set of plates, an extra plate for the rear of a different car, some fixings and a number plate surround.
the site is a very cluttered and i did not see where to add the (i need legal statement on the number plates) so i added that i needed legal in the message to seller when i paid by paypal. i also paid extra for speedy tracked delivery.

when i got home i was really pleased as sticking out of my letter box was a long package. however when i opened it, i was very disappointed, 2 of the plates were damaged, there was no legal writing on them as i had asked. The fixings and number plate surround were missing.
i went back to their site to query where the missing parts were and realised that there was no contact number or email address to get in contact with them :-(( this is when i thought i had been scammed, so i opened a dispute on paypal hoping that they would be able to get in contact with the plate makers. i did make to an impact by sending 6 emails asking for different plates and put a few sentences in each number plate request.
well that seemed to work, the next morning i got a call, explained what had happened and was told, dont worry , we will sort it out. i said shall i send the plates back, they said no dont worry we dont want them back. so i relied on his word and binned them.

4 days later they sent me an email saying they were not sending a new set as i had disputed the transaction, which i felt was the only way i could make contact.
So now, i have no plates, no accessories and no number plate surround. Paypal say unless i send the plates back i will not get a refund and the plate company will get my money. i cant send the plates back as the bin have been and they are now gone.
Paypal are absolutely no help and the plate company are contactless.

The amount was £53, not a huge amount and definitely not enough to lose goodwill and create a bad karma. i took ages choosing which company to use, and i chose this company, what a mistake!!

The reason for this thread is to say beware of buying something from someone who has no email address or phone number for customer service. and wahtever you do dont make a mistake with this number plate company because they are NOT contactable.
as much as i would like to name them, even if only to get a response from them, i am aware of naming and shaming rules. But if you want help choosing a number plate company please p.m me and i will be glad to give you my recommendations

Future note: Never throw anything away until you've got a satisfactory replacement in hand.

to me it sounds like you were not buying legal plates anyway.

Dvla states you need to provide personal i.d and entitlement docs (usually the reg doc) to get plates made legally (with the legal writing on them). If you didn't need to provide these they are not what Dvla (or m.o.t man) call number plates....

As far as I was concerned they were legal plates. They were the normal font. Correct spacings and I asked for the legal to be put on, as there is a comment box where you can request the legal. I run a transport company and I often have to buy plates. But the company I use can't put a border around the the edge of the plates.

paypal generally side with the buyer so will refund if you send the faulty ones back. They need a receipt so use recorded. Take photos to show what isnt right just in case
