Beetroot juice

Anyone drink this stuff or have any views on it? Seems to be the elixir of life du jour if some are to be believed, so is it that good?. Shame it tastes like liquidised flower bed though!
I juice from fresh and think it tastes quite nice. If you are struggling to drink it, try adding pineapple & carrot juice to it. Juicing fresh is the way to go, though.A lot of super foods out there and I’ve heard beetroot juice is one of them. However, I don’t like the taste and if you’re drinking it regularly, the chances are you’ve already ruined at least one shirt.
I think I’d prefer to stick to occasional beetroot in my salads and making sure I’m taking a good, well-researched multi-vitamin to get any excess micronutrients into my diet that I might not be getting elsewhere.
Only my opinion though.

Wow a source of Boron. Lol, how wonderfully useless.
Why are these claims always supported by rubbish papers? The sample sizes are tiny, there's no control and they're not blinded in almost every single result.
I'm not going to start my whole "where is the evidence" again though...
I've done a scientific trial of one. 100% agree that beetroot tastes great. Why are these claims always supported by rubbish papers? The sample sizes are tiny, there's no control and they're not blinded in almost every single result.

I don’t disagree with you. However, someone chugging a can of beetroot juice regularly as opposed to someone chugging a can of coke regularly would probably be healthier or at least have nicer teeth and funky pink stained clothes. I loved this stuff.. when cycling it makes a difference to your capacity for sure.. you just feel you can push that bit harder aerobically. However it tastes like s
t, I bought a whole load of those beet shots, used to take 2 an hour before going on a ride, over the months I would find it harder and harder to drink them, in the end I used to gag so much it was uncomfortable. I had to give them up.. just couldn't keep them down.. the smell of them now puts me into a cold sweat, its ok if they are pickled or with chilli, just by themselves..

I don't know if I fancy another row about pseudo science but why is beetroot juice an alleged miracle?
It's not this b
ks about anti-oxidants again is it?
Never mind any purported miracle-ness... can't be any harm in throwing back the juice of a few raw veggies and fruit every day or every other day, can there? It's not this b

I could just do without the "and it's full of anti-oxidants, boron, pro-lipto bulls
tides, vitamin D872 and anti-cholerstrolicalicum bacterius"..Even the anti-oxidant thing makes no sense to me and I studied reactive oxygen species and the like at university. Why the hell does drinking it make me live longer?
Why can't they just say, "Beetroot. It's better than drinking Coke, supporting an evil corporation and simultaneously rotting your teeth out of your face and getting type 2 diabetes"?

Dont drink too much of it it will play havoc with your bowels rather worrying when everything turns red.
I've picked up a few cartons at the supermarket pre mixed with some apple juice to add some sweetness and it's pretty good. There was the expected pink pee before heading out for a night on the town. Visiting the bathroom the following morning I'd forgotten all about it, turned to flush and there was a pile of blood filled sludge below me

Took a moment to realise I didn't have serious internal bleeding

I've had the 10% apple juice before, doesn't improve the flavour much for me, and stupidly I downed loads of it, had an interesting toilet trip that evening.

Two shots seems to be sufficient for top effects 2 hours minimum before the event.
It doesn't exactly give you more energy but allows you to do more with what you have, better efficiency.

For health benefits beetroot juice is especially potent when combined with snake oil and drunk from a glass with a crystal in it...
I've been caught out a couple of times after being given a glut of beetroot by kind neighbour with allotment - next day - eek, I've got haematuria! - then remember 1) no risk factors for urothelial carcinoma and 2) beetfest. One of our secretaries came to a colleague worried that she was peeing blood.
Don't bother de-mudding or peeling, just top & tail and cook in pressure cooker, slide peel off with your fingers when cool, enjoy with a little olive oil, garlic and vinegar. As for health benefits, just regard as one of 5 or 7 portions of veg a day.
