Apologies in advance if this has been asked on here before, but what is your all time favourite racing game?

I only ask as I was recently looking for a game that had most English tracks on it to see how they compared to real life and rediscovered TOCA 2 Touring Cars. Although in light of that, and despite the fact that Gran Turismo was the first game I ever played, Gran Turismo 4 has to be my all time favourite.

Over to you smile

ETA: any format of course.

Forza Motorsport 4, without doubt. The Forza series wipes the floor with GT ... and I used to be a big GT fan.

I also quite liked Need For Speed Underground 2 smile

I am excited about Project C.A.R.S at the moment.

They have fired-Stig and Nick Hamilton (among others) as physics consultants.

Seeing those guys giving feedback about how a car is acting vs how it should be acting and seeing resulting changes in the next patch is an interesting process.

Agree with NFSU2, I was never an Xbox guy unfortunately but have played on Forza and it is incredible, so much better than the latest GT offerings.

Big, big GT fan here, I found a load of my old discs recently, work through the original again. Unfortunately I can't find the second GT mode disc from GT2:

There's a GT group on Google+ that still has some decent activity, and better signal to noise ratio than the GTPlanet forums.

The FM series has shown that there's more to a racing game than just physics. I've said before that GT5 is flawed in a lot of areas, and I can only hope it'll be remedied in the next release. PLaying the old games reminds me of how much they got right first time!

Project CARS is excellent so far - they've got some issues to work out, the physics has definitely got a bit mad this last few updates, but it's a known issue.

Probably my most-played is GT4, favourite is a lot more tricky. I have a soft spot for Dirt 1, Richard Burns Rally, the rest of the Gran Turismo series, PGR4 for the Maserati 250F, probably GTA3 for the hilarity as well.

gran turismo all the way, most realistic without being too "simmy"

All time favourite racing game? i'm gonna go for either the surprisingly brilliant Star Wars episode 1 podracer on the N64, or the utterly perfect Burnout 2: Point of impact on the PS2. Dirt 2 on the Xbox 360 is also very good.

As for serious racing games, i think it would have to be GT3 - in terms of graphics it moved the field on massively compared to GT2 - the difference between GT4 and GT3 isnt as much - GT3 was pretty much perfect.

Forza 4 has the best real world tracks, but strangely none excite in the same way the fictional GT3 ones did.

Whilst I appreciate how great a game GT or Forza is, I just can't get on with them because the cars don't handle realistically. I can't help trying to drive them like a real car, which doesn't really work in lots of situations. I'm a big fan of netKar Pro, and to a lesser extent RFactor and iRacing.

Gran Tourismo 4 has an epic introduction with the Ford GT. cool

I rarely play computer games but I do have a PS2 with GT4. M3 round the 'Ring, good way to waste and hour or so a couple of times a week (and attempt to learn the circuit).

Never even heard of this today. Cannot wait for this to come out on the PS3.

I have played them all. How do you pick a favourite? It would depend massively on my age at the time, as i've grown to love sims over arcade racers. But as a 12/13 year old I would have said NFS: Hot pursuit 2.

But my list is something like:

-GT4
-GT1
-GTR series (inc 2 and evo and race07)
-Forza 4
-Grid was absolutely brilliant at the time
-Toca2
-Colim Mcrae 1-3

At the moment most of my gaming time is split between GTRe and P:Cars. P:Cars is great, recommend everyone to give it a try.
