Goodbye Alpina D3.....Hello Audi S5.

Been here a while now, so with this being one of my favourite forums to visit I thought It's high time I posted my own 'Readers Car'...
Here's my old Alpina D3. Personally I think the styling of the D3 is superb, everything is in proportion. It looks purposeful yet subtle. The handing is what you'd expect from an Alpina and although it's a 2ltr diesel it still punched out 200bhp while returning 45(ish) mpg. Only downside was the lack of mod cons, pretty poor in comparison to equally based cars.

So, the time came that I needed a change. My previous car to the D3 was an A4 Avant, like the D3 it also had a 2.0ltr diesel engine, suffice to say I'd had my fill.
I need/want/must buy a V8....so that's what I did.
This is my Audi S5, 4.2 litres of V8 lovely jubbliness....I'm more than happy with my purchase and despite it's less than crappy fuel consumption I can't ask for any more in a car at this time.... looking forward to my eurotrip this summer.
Bought from the good chaps at Redline Specialist Car in Knarsborough....It's worth going there if for no other reason than to admire their selection of supercars. In fact my lad was treated to sit in any car he wanted which was very cool indeed.
Anyway, here's a few pics (again just after being valeted)
Fairly decent spec with the most important boxes ticked i.e Bang & Olufsen and Sat Nav
And lets not forget our smiling friend...

I've not yet had a proper drive in the S5...but as I live in mid wales, the gateway to some great roads I'm sure I will find out soon enough.
For now it's all about the howl.

I'm sure the joy of having a V8 instead of a diesel might take the edge off. Alpinas were never the sharpest things anyway, and I'm sure the grip from the Audi will give it more than enough cornering prowess for the road.You've obviously gained a V8, but think you might miss the steering and handling balance of the BMW..... I struggled with various dealers getting a decent p/x price and the private side was very slow too. It was advertised here for £12950 and not a single bite in two months.
In the end I chanced a call to RL over the Christmas break, the car I was interested in had just sold but was still offered by far the best p/x price and my list of must haves taken down. Couple of weeks later they'd found my car and the deal was done.

It's pretty poor...I'm yet to work out what mpg it's achieving but at a guess I'd say your on the money. Saying that, your Aero has shocking mpg! Found another from yesterdays valet....needs to get some more rural shots i think.

S5s steer very nicely, have a wonderful interior, nice seating position and genuine character. There's a lot of forum nonsense about a lot of Audi cars around these parts from persons with no direct experience.
Ultimately, an S5 will understeer if you carry too much speed into a turn, they're set up this way as a great many cars are. Driven correctly they can carry prodigious amounts of speed and are very satisfying to drive hard but they're equally nice when driven 'normally' and won't offend or upset any non car people.
Tunable too, if that's your bag.
